Ben Affleck Pulls Hilarious Prank on Dunkin’ Customers
Ben Affleck recently shared a funny behind-the-scenes story about one of his Dunkin’ commercials that never aired. The Oscar-winning actor revealed that a prank he filmed for a 2025 ad didn’t go as planned. The joke involved Affleck working at a drive-through and telling customers the store was completely out of coffee.
Affleck and his longtime friend Matt Damon talked about the prank while promoting their new Netflix film, The Rip. Damon explained that the ad was too risky for the brand to release. Affleck had been stationed at a Dunkin’ in Medford, Massachusetts, where he had to break the bad news to unsuspecting customers.
On paper, the prank sounded hilarious, but the real-life reactions were less than enthusiastic. Damon said many of the people pulling up were just ordinary folks trying to get to work. He joked that “guys who were on their way to go paint a house were not having it” when they heard there was no caffeine available.
Affleck remembers the reactions vividly and even acted out some of the complaints he heard that day. He said some customers were angry because they felt like they had wasted an entire hour only to be told no coffee was ready. One person reportedly shouted that they “didn’t wait an hour for water” after being offered a different drink instead.
Even though Affleck thought the prank was genius, Dunkin’ executives were worried about their brand image. Damon added that the company shut the idea down because they didn’t want to suggest that their most popular product might run out. The footage was ultimately shelved and never aired.
Despite the failed prank, Affleck’s partnership with Dunkin’ remains strong. He appeared in a seven-minute 2025 Super Bowl ad alongside Tom Brady, keeping his funny, coffee-obsessed persona alive as he tried to start a boy band.
Meanwhile, Affleck has been busy with both acting and directing. His new Netflix thriller, The Rip, premiered on January 16. He stars as Miami detective J.D. Byrne and reunites with Matt Damon on screen for the first time in years. The film also features Steven Yeun and Teyana Taylor.
Looking ahead, Affleck is set to direct and star in Animals, a kidnapping thriller for Netflix featuring Kerry Washington and Gillian Anderson.
Outside of acting, Affleck runs the production company Artists Equity with Damon, focusing on fairer profit distribution for actors and crew members. Between big-budget films and coffee commercials, Affleck shows no signs of slowing down.
