Benedict Cumberbatch Picks a Side in Doctor Strange vs. Doctor Doom Debate

Benedict Cumberbatch recently shared his thoughts on Doctor Strange’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during an interview with IGN while promoting his role as the official Ambassador for the World of Tanks Holiday Ops 2026 event.

The actor didn’t reveal much about his possible appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, but he was asked who he thinks would win in a fight between Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom. “I hope Dr Strange!” Cumberbatch said, hinting that a showdown between the two iconic characters could happen when they eventually appear on screen together in 2026 or 2027.

Although he stayed tight-lipped about specific plans, Cumberbatch did drop some hints about what’s next for the Sorcerer Supreme. He explained that he “has more than a sense” of what lies ahead and assured fans that audiences “definitely will” see Doctor Strange again. This is one of the clearest signs yet that his story in the MCU isn’t finished.

Cumberbatch has continued to stay involved with Marvel through smaller projects, including voicing Doctor Strange in the animated series What If…?.

Fans are now eagerly anticipating his next big cinematic appearance, especially with Marvel lining up several major projects over the next few years. Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday are set for 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, which is expected to wrap up the Multiverse Saga. While reports suggest he may not appear in Doomsday, speculation is high that Doctor Strange will play a key role in Secret Wars.

There are also plans for another solo Doctor Strange film. Earlier this year, Cumberbatch confirmed that he was preparing for a third standalone movie. He praised Marvel Studios for allowing him input on the project, including choosing the director, writer, and which comic storylines to explore.

It’s clear that Doctor Strange’s journey is far from over, and fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming years. With Cumberbatch hinting at battles with Doctor Doom and a potential solo film, the Sorcerer Supreme’s future in the MCU looks brighter than ever.
