Blake Lively is at the center of a Hollywood storm as new court documents reveal she asked Ben Affleck and Matt Damon for help during the chaotic production of It Ends With Us. The documents were unsealed on Tuesday, January 20, and were first reported by Us Weekly. They show that Lively reached out to her former co-star Affleck in May 2024 to get his eyes on her cut of the film.

In one email, Lively described the experience as “the most upsetting experience I’ve ever had on a movie.” She compared the set to a disaster mashup, writing, “It’s like if Wild Wild Country, Fyre Festival and Going Clear had a baby with The Room … Room also works though.”

According to the filings, Lively said she had to take control of the production herself. She claimed she “ended up rewriting and restructuring the entire script” and essentially directed the movie because of Baldoni’s alleged incompetence. She described dealing with him as navigating “via the chaotic clown ‘director’/actor/producer/financier/studio head at the center.” Lively also noted, “Yes that’s all the same person,” referencing Baldoni’s multiple roles on the film. She added that everyone he hired was “in a cult.”

Lively asked Affleck to review her edit before she confronted Baldoni over the final cut. She insisted there was “zero pressure” but admitted she trusted Affleck’s insight more than anyone else. “I can think of very few people who would be as prescriptive and insightful as I know you would be,” she wrote. She also invited Jennifer Lopez, Affleck’s wife at the time, to watch the film, calling it an honor.

The outreach extended to Matt Damon through Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds. In the emails, Lively vented about Baldoni’s “enormous ego” and claimed he saw himself as “our century’s prophet” with “no taste.”

Damon offered support, writing, “We’ll give you any help we can.” He even joked about her directing future projects at their production company, Artists Equity: “And if this experience hasn’t totally destroyed your soul, Blake, you should come direct your next movie at Artists Equity. We’re kind of like a cult but a really nice one.”

The documents come amid an ongoing legal battle. Lively sued Baldoni over s**** harassment claims in 2024, while his countersuit was dismissed in June 2025. The civil trial is set to begin this May.

Blake Lively, known for Gossip Girl, The Shallows, A Simple Favor, and The Age of Adaline, recently wrapped production on A Simple Favor 2.

Justin Baldoni, who gained fame in Jane the Virgin, also directed films like Five Feet Apart and Clouds and authored Man Enough, which challenges traditional masculinity. His reputation makes the allegations on It Ends With Us all the more controversial.
