With “The Calamity,” the fourth and concluding cour, currently airing its climactic final stretch, fans have been counting down the weeks until Ichigo Kurosaki’s story finally reaches its conclusion.

That anticipation hit an unexpected snag this weekend, arriving with particularly rough timing. The announcement came just an hour before Episode 49 was originally scheduled to premiere on Hulu and Disney+, catching viewers off guard mere moments before they expected to see the next chapter of the story.

The production committee has officially delayed Episodes 49 and 50 of ‘Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity,’ pushing the anime’s final two installments to October 19 and October 26 respectively. The delay affects both the Japanese broadcast schedule and international streaming release dates across all platforms carrying the series.

In its official statement, the production committee explained the decision was made in order to enhance quality toward the climax and deliver the work as strongly as possible, sentiments shared in comments reported by CBR. Rather than rushing the finale to meet its original air dates, the team is opting to take additional time to polish the animation heading into Ichigo’s climactic confrontations.

Rather than leaving a blank gap in the broadcast schedule, TV Tokyo will fill the interim weeks with a series of “Climax Selection” episodes, effectively curated recap installments highlighting key moments from earlier in the Thousand-Year Blood War saga. Those selections are scheduled to air on September 19, September 26, October 5, and October 12, giving fans a structured lead-up before the story resumes.

Episode 49, officially the ninth episode of “The Calamity,” will now air in Japan on TV Tokyo on October 19 before hitting BS TV Tokyo the following day, with streaming platforms following suit on October 20. Episode 50, the series finale, will then close out the broadcast on October 26 via TV Tokyo, with BS TV Tokyo and streaming releases following on October 27.

That timing means international viewers on platforms like Hulu and Disney+ will need to wait roughly an additional month beyond the anime’s original schedule to see how Kubo’s decade-spanning story ultimately wraps up. Given how short “The Calamity’s” overall episode count already is at just 10 installments, the delay has left some fans expressing frustration over the extended gap so close to the finish line.

‘Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’ has followed an unusually staggered release pattern since its debut, arriving across separate cours titled “The Separation” in 2022 and “The Conflict” in subsequent years before reaching “The Calamity” this past July. Given how much anticipation has built around finally reaching this ending, the production team’s decision to prioritize quality over hitting a fixed date reflects the significant weight riding on how the story ultimately concludes.

While a one-month wait is undoubtedly frustrating for fans eager to see the finale, many have noted online that a short delay is far preferable to the kind of animator overwork that’s plagued other high-profile anime productions in the past. With new dates now locked in, ‘Bleach’s’ 22-year animated journey is finally set to reach its conclusion by the end of October.
