Brad Pitt is officially back as Cliff Booth in The Adventures of Cliff Booth, and fans have just gotten their first look at him in the role. The upcoming film is a follow-up to Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 hit Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but this time, the story is being directed by David Fincher.

The project is written by Tarantino, and it picks up eight years after the events of the original movie, now set in 1977.

The film recently kicked off filming in California, and the first images of Pitt on set have made their way online, giving fans a taste of Booth’s new chapter. He’s still the same cool, confident stuntman, but older, and with a few more scars, both physical and emotional.

While Leonardo DiCaprio’s return as Rick Dalton hasn’t been confirmed, it was reported back in April 2025 that he was in talks to come back. Brad Pitt was already locked in to reprise his Oscar-winning role, and the film brings in some new faces too. The cast includes Scott Caan, Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany, JB Tadena, and Corey Fogelmanis.

The idea for a Cliff Booth solo story has actually been in Tarantino’s mind for a while. Back in 2021, he told the Pure Cinema Podcast that he wanted to explore Booth’s past. “Someday I’ll do his adventure in the POW camp,” he said. That never happened, but the spark remained. By 2024, Tarantino was deep into writing what was supposed to be The Movie Critic, which eventually evolved into this Cliff Booth sequel.

After Tarantino decided not to direct the project himself, David Fincher came on board. Netflix reportedly bought the script from Tarantino, according to Deadline, and greenlit the movie. The title at that time was The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth, but it’s since been shortened to simply The Adventures of Cliff Booth.

Sources like Variety, Deadline, and The Hollywood Reporter have all confirmed the film’s cast and production timeline. Filming started on July 28, 2025, and it’s expected to wrap sometime in early 2026. The plot will follow Booth as a Hollywood fixer, someone hired behind the scenes to quietly take care of the film industry’s dirty work, perfect for a character with his shady skills and complicated past.

Elizabeth Debicki, who was confirmed for the cast in May, joins Pitt as one of the key new characters. Scott Caan was also cast around the same time, and in the following weeks, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino, and Holt McCallany were brought on board. JB Tadena and Corey Fogelmanis rounded out the ensemble in July.

The first look images already hint at a different kind of tone—less dreamy than Once Upon a Time, and possibly more grounded and intense. With Fincher directing and Tarantino’s voice behind the story, this sequel is shaping up to be a fascinating blend of two very different filmmakers.

There’s no release date yet, but now that filming is underway, expect more updates—and more looks at Cliff Booth, in the coming months.
