Brad Pitt just hit a new milestone in his career, and it’s thanks to the racing drama F1. The film has now become his highest-grossing movie as a leading actor, passing the worldwide total of his previous record-holder World War Z. According to box office data, F1 has now made $545.6 million globally, edging past World War Z’s $502.6 million run.

The movie has been a huge win for Apple Studios, which has struggled to score major box office success until now. F1 is being called the studio’s first real theatrical hit, debuting at number one at the box office and holding strong for weeks.

When it opened, it pulled in $146.3 million worldwide in its first weekend, an impressive start that hinted it might go far. In the United States, it brought in $173.3 million so far, while overseas markets have been even more impressive with $372.3 million earned across 78 international territories.

The overseas performance is where the movie has really taken off. Even in its sixth weekend, it managed to pull in $17.2 million internationally, dropping only 18.5% from the week before, a sign of very strong audience interest. China and South Korea have been especially strong markets, and with an IMAX re-release set for August 8, box office watchers believe the film could eventually pass the $600 million mark.

In the U.S. and Canada, F1 opened against M3GAN 2.0 and was predicted to land somewhere between $35 million and $60 million in its debut. It ended up taking $57 million, comfortably hitting the top spot.

The movie made $10 million in previews alone, including $7 million just from Thursday night showings. Even with competition from big titles like Jurassic World Rebirth and Superman, it held steady in the top three for weeks.

Critics and audiences have both embraced F1. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has an 83% approval rating from over 300 critics, with the consensus reading: “Driven by Brad Pitt’s laidback magnetism and sporting a souped-up engine courtesy of Joseph Kosinski’s kinetic direction, F1 the Movie brings vintage cool across the finish line.”

On Metacritic, it holds a score of 68 out of 100, signaling generally favorable reviews. CinemaScore audiences gave it an “A” grade, and PostTrak polling showed a 92% positive score, with nearly 80% of viewers saying they’d recommend it to others.

This success also puts F1 ahead of several of Pitt’s most well-known hits. Movies like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Troy, and Ocean’s Eleven have all been strong earners in his career, but F1 now sits at the top of his box office record. For reference, Troy made $497.4 million, Mr. & Mrs. Smith made $478.2 million, and Ocean’s Eleven brought in $450.7 million worldwide.

With F1 still going strong and more money likely to come in from the IMAX run, Brad Pitt has found himself at a new career peak. Whether it can cross the $600 million mark remains to be seen, but one thing is clear, this movie has already made history for him.
