Brad Pitt’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ Sequel Finally Has an Official Title

Brad Pitt’s return to one of his most beloved roles has been in the works for over a year, generating steady buzz through a surprise Super Bowl teaser and a shifting production timeline. The long-anticipated follow-up to Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ has been through several working names since it was first confirmed, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the project to settle on something official.

That wait is finally over. Netflix has confirmed the film’s title is “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth,” rechristening the project previously known as “The Adventures of Cliff Booth” as it heads toward release later this year. The announcement arrived alongside new details about the film’s release strategy, giving fans their clearest picture yet of how the movie will actually reach audiences.

Pitt reprises his role as stunt double Cliff Booth, the character who earned him his first-ever acting Oscar in the 2019 original, which grossed $377 million worldwide and collected two Academy Awards from ten nominations. This time around, David Fincher takes over directing duties from a screenplay written by Tarantino, marking the fourth collaboration between Pitt and Fincher following “Se7en,” “Fight Club,” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

Tarantino previously explained his decision to hand off directing duties rather than helm the sequel himself. Speaking on the Church of Tarantino podcast, Tarantino said he loved the script but felt unenthused about walking “the same ground I’ve already walked” for what he intends to be his final directorial effort, a distinction he’s held firm on throughout his career.

The story picks up in 1977, jumping ahead from the 1969 setting of the original film into a drastically changed Hollywood landscape. That time jump follows the events of the first movie, which saw Booth and Rick Dalton, originally played by Leonardo DiCaprio, rewrite history by stopping the Manson family murders on the night they would have killed Sharon Tate and several others.

Joining Pitt in the ensemble are Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, Karren Karagulian, Holt McCallany, and Timothy Olyphant, though DiCaprio is not expected to reprise his role as Dalton this time around. Pitt and Ceán Chaffin produced the film alongside David Heyman and Stacey Sher through Plan B Entertainment and Heyday Films.

Netflix confirmed “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” will receive a two-week exclusive global IMAX theatrical run beginning November 25, before making its streaming debut on the platform December 23. That release pattern gives the film a substantial theatrical showcase before shifting to Netflix’s massive subscriber base, a strategy the streamer has increasingly leaned on for its higher-profile releases.

Netflix first teased the project during this year’s Super Bowl with a brief trailer set to retro music, giving audiences their first proper glimpse of Pitt back in character as Booth alongside period-accurate Old Hollywood styling from co-stars Debicki and Abdul-Mateen II. With the title now locked in and a concrete release window confirmed, anticipation for Pitt and Fincher’s reunion looks set to keep building through the fall.
