Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie Team Up for Prequel to Beloved Heist Comedy Movie

Bradley Cooper is set to join Margot Robbie in the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel at Warner Bros, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The film will be directed by Lee Isaac Chung, known for Twisters and Minari, with Robbie producing through her LuckyChap Entertainment.

The prequel, which has been in the works since 2022, is set in 1960s Europe and will explore an original story within the Ocean’s Eleven universe.

Carrie Solomon is writing the script, though plot details are being kept under wraps. Initially, Ryan Gosling was in talks to star alongside Robbie, but Bradley Cooper has now entered negotiations for the male lead.

The Ocean’s franchise began with Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Eleven in 2001, followed by Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007, with most of the original cast reprising their roles.

In 2018, a spin-off titled Ocean’s 8 was released, featuring an all-female ensemble including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna.

When the prequel was first announced, Robbie was set to star and produce, with Jay Roach originally attached to direct.

The movie is meant to connect with the original films rather than serve as a reboot. In December 2023, it was revealed that Robbie and Gosling’s characters would portray the parents of Danny and Debbie Ocean, played by George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. Production was initially planned for spring 2023 but was delayed due to scheduling conflicts.

In July, Lee Isaac Chung entered talks to direct, and by October, Cooper was confirmed as the male lead. Chung is now officially attached to direct, alongside Robbie’s production team.

This prequel promises to expand the Ocean’s universe while keeping the charm and style fans loved in the original films. With the combination of Robbie and Cooper, expectations are high.
