Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to team up again for another round of ancient curses and desert adventures.

The two stars from the beloved Mummy films will return for a new sequel, with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known together as Radio Silence, taking the lead on the project. The duo made their mark with Ready or Not in 2019 and later brought back the Scream series for Paramount in 2022.

Universal Pictures, the studio behind the franchise, hasn’t shared any official details about the film yet, according to Variety. Still, fans are already excited to see Fraser and Weisz back together after so many years.

Fraser first starred as explorer Rick O’Connell in the 1999 The Mummy, a hit adventure film that mixed humor, action, and supernatural elements. Rachel Weisz played Evelyn, the clever Egyptologist who teams up with O’Connell. The movie’s success turned Fraser into a major action star and led to two sequels, The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. Weisz appeared in the first two films but didn’t return for the third.

Universal tried to bring The Mummy back in 2017 with Tom Cruise, but that version didn’t click with audiences or critics. It was supposed to start a shared “Dark Universe” of monster movies, but the plan fell apart after the film’s poor performance.

Fraser also shared what he believed went wrong with the 2017 version. “It is hard to make that movie,” he said. “The ingredient that we had going for our ‘Mummy,’ which I didn’t see in the new one, was fun. That was what was lacking in that incarnation. It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. ‘The Mummy’ should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.”
