Brie Larson has officially joined The Bear in Season 4, and fans finally know who she’s playing. Her character had been a mystery for a while, but now it’s clear—Larson plays Francine Fak, sister to Neil and Teddy Fak, and part of one of the show’s most chaotic families.

She makes her first appearance in Episode 6, which is the longest episode of the season at 69 minutes. The episode centers around a wedding, Tiff, played by Gillian Jacobs, is marrying Frank, played by Josh Hartnett.

Tiff used to be married to Richie, and she still sees his family as her own. That sets the stage for a wild family reunion that brings all kinds of drama to the celebration.

Brie Larson’s Francine shows up as part of the Fak family, but her arrival does more than add a famous face to the cast. It also brings up one of the biggest questions that’s been hanging over the show since Season 1: what happened between Francine and Sugar?

Sugar, played by Abby Elliott, clearly has bad blood with Francine, but until now, the show never really explained why. The episode doesn’t give a full answer, but it does hint at something strange.

One of the cousins jokes that the two women might have hooked up in the past. No one confirms it, but the suggestion is enough to shake things up. Pete, Sugar’s husband, even asks her directly if she was in love with Francine. Sugar takes a long pause, then laughs and blows raspberries before saying no. Still, the moment leaves things feeling unsettled.

Even though the feud’s origin isn’t fully explained, Larson and Elliott bring energy and emotion to the screen. Their scenes together are loud and intense, full of arguing and tension, but also moments that show both actresses at the top of their game.

According to FX and Hulu, Larson’s role is one of many new additions to the cast this season. Danielle Deadwyler, known for her role in Till, also shows up in Season 4. She plays Chantel, cousin to Syd. Chantel appears in Episode 4, helping Syd with her hair while sharing parenting advice and funny moments with her daughter TJ, played by Arion King.

Season 4 also brings back a lot of familiar faces. Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Donna. Bob Odenkirk is back as Uncle Lee. Sarah Paulson, Will Poulter, John Mulaney, Sarah Ramos, and others also make appearances.

Episode 4, where Deadwyler appears, was written by Ayo Edebiri and Lionel Boyce—Boyce also plays Marcus in the show. That episode was directed by Janicza Bravo.
