Cal Kestis Reportedly to Make a Live-Action Debut, Here’s Our Best Guess in Which Project
One of the most popular Star Wars characters in recent times did not debut in live-action or animated projects, he debuted in ‘Star Wars Jedi’ franchise. We’re talking about Cal Kestis.
Kestis appeared in two games so far, ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ and ‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.’ Cal is a former Jedi Padawan and survivor of the Great Jedi Purge, living in seclusion on the planet Bracca during the early Galactic Empire. An incident forces him to reveal his Force powers, leading to his pursuit by the Inquisitors, the Empire’s Jedi hunters.
On a quest to rebuild the Jedi Order, Cal gathers unlikely allies who become a second family and help him challenge the Empire. Critics and fans have generally received Cal positively, praising his character development and relationships, though he faced some initial criticism for his “boring” appearance in the first game.
Now fans have been asking for Cal to join the live-action franchise for quite some time now and if Daniel Richtman, a notable industry insider is to be believed, he might soon get a live-action debut.
As far as casting for the role goes, fans also concluded that it makes no sense whatsoever for the character to be played by anybody other than Cameron Monaghan, considering that Respawn uses photorealistic graphics to bring the actor’s likeness to a video game. So he is a natural fit for the role.
Now, the only question remaining is in which project he might debut. It’s unlikely that he will get his own standalone show, but considering the timeline of the games and Cal’s status, it’s likely that he might debut in ‘Ahsoka’ season 2.
Cal and Ahsoka never crossed paths as far as we know, but the live-action series might change that. The problem with this is however that ‘Jedi: Fallen Order’ is set in 14 BBY, five years after ‘Revenge of the Sith.’ While Cal’s exact age during the game isn’t specified, he is likely in his early 20s. ‘The Mandalorian’ takes place 23 years later, which would make Cal around 40. ‘Ahsoka’ takes place after that, around 9 ABY.
The 27-year-old actor Cameron Monaghan could potentially portray a 40-year-old Cal with the help of makeup. If we’re heading down that path, it’s likely that the character might appear in the upcoming ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ as well, but we’re not clear on how his story would connect to the existing cast.
