Captain America: Brave New World marked Anthony Mackie’s first time playing Captain America in a movie. The movie also stars Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Xosha Roquemore, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. The story follows Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, as he uncovers a conspiracy involving U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Ford.

Despite the star-studded cast and Marvel’s popularity, the movie struggled at the box office. It made about $200.5 million in the U.S. and Canada and $214.6 million internationally, for a total of $415.1 million worldwide. However, according to reports, the film needed to earn at least $425 million globally to break even. This figure includes the $180 million production budget plus marketing and other costs.

Critics had mixed feelings about the movie. Many were divided over the story, how it connects to other Marvel projects, and the visual effects. Reviews ranged from mixed to negative. But the performances of Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford got positive mentions, showing that the actors stood out even if the movie didn’t fully hit the mark for everyone.

The box office numbers also dropped quickly after opening. In its second weekend, the movie earned just $28.2 million, a 68% drop from the first weekend. This was one of the biggest drops seen in the MCU, behind only Fantastic Four: First Step, The Marvels, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Even though the film did not perform well in theaters, it’s finding new life on streaming. On Disney+, Captain America: Brave New World has stayed in the Top 10 in the U.S. for an impressive 56 days straight.

This information was reported recently and shows that people are still interested in the movie, just mostly after it hits streaming platforms.

This trend isn’t too surprising. Superhero movies still have big audiences, but lately many fans prefer to wait for them to be available at home. Streaming services like Disney+ make it easy to watch these films over and over, which can give movies a second chance after a slow theater run.

Captain America: Brave New World might have stumbled in cinemas, but it’s proving that the MCU still has a strong fanbase ready to watch wherever and whenever they can.
