Channing Tatum is swapping the movie set for a hospital room after undergoing surgery on his shoulder. The Magic Mike star shared the news on Instagram on Wednesday, February 4, posting a black-and-white photo from his recovery. Tatum looked tired but determined, writing, Just another day. Another challenge. This one is gonna be hard. But whatever. Let’s get it in.

On his Instagram Story, he gave fans a closer look at the injury with “before and after” X-rays. The “after” image shows a surgical screw holding his shoulder in place. Tatum joked about it, captioning the photo, Screwed shoulder. Yay.

While he didn’t say exactly how the injury happened, he had previously mentioned hurting his shoulder last September during Marvel filming, leading many to think this surgery was needed to fix a lingering stunt injury.

Earlier this year, Tatum was seen enjoying a romantic trip to Costa Rica with his girlfriend, model Inka Williams. The couple have been together since early 2025, shortly after Tatum ended his engagement to Zoë Kravitz. Williams has also been seen on the red carpet with Tatum and his daughter, Everly, and she will likely be helping him through recovery in the coming weeks.

The timing of the surgery comes while Tatum is having a big year professionally. Last week, he attended the 2026 Sundance Film Festival for the premiere of Josephine, a thriller directed by Beth de Araújo. Tatum stars alongside Gemma Chan, and critics are already praising his performance as one of the most intense of his career.

Earlier, his true-crime film Roofman moved to Paramount+ after a successful run in theaters. In it, Tatum plays Jeffrey Manchester, a robber who hid in a hollowed-out Toys “R” Us roof. Kirsten Dunst and Peter Dinklage also star, showing that Tatum can handle both drama and comedy with ease.

Looking ahead, Tatum is set to return as Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday, hitting theaters on December 18. Fans have been waiting years to see him fully play the card-dealing mutant, and this movie will mark his official return to the superhero world after his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. With recovery expected to take a few months, Tatum should be back in action just in time for press events and promotion.

This recovery could give him a little downtime before diving into his busy 2026 schedule. Do you think Channing Tatum should finally get a solo Gambit movie, or are you more excited to see him in dramatic roles like Josephine? Share your thoughts in the comments.
