It was a scary start to the week for the team behind one of the biggest video games in the world. On Monday morning, emergency crews had to race to the Rockstar North office in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is the main studio that is working on Grand Theft Auto 6. There was an explosion at the building, which caused quite a scare.

Thankfully, it looks like this was just an accident and not something more sinister. The explosion reportedly happened in the boiler room of the building. The best news is that nobody was injured during the incident. It happened very early in the morning, around 5 AM. Because it was so early, there were very few people, if any, inside the office at the time.

The local news outlet, The Herald, reported on the situation. They explained that firefighters went to the scene to make sure the building was safe and to check on the damage.

According to the report in The Herald: “Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene, where firefighters worked to secure structural damage at a commercial building. There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene at 9.21am.”

It is still unclear if the office will be open for work right away. This building is a very important place for the development of GTA 6. The game has already faced a long road to get released. It was supposed to come out in late 2025, but it was delayed to May 2026. Then, it was moved again to this coming fall.

The current release date for the game is November 19, 2026. Fans are obviously worried if this accident will cause another delay. However, since the explosion seems to be contained and no one was hurt, there is no sign yet that it will slow down the game’s release. For now, Rockstar is likely just making sure their developers are safe and that the building is secure.
