Chappell Roan Breaks Silence on Hotel Incident After Young Fan Is Left in Tears
Chappell Roan has addressed a situation that caused strong reactions online after a young fan was left upset during an encounter at a hotel in Brazil.
The issue came to light after Jorginho Frello shared his account on Instagram on March 21. He said his wife and their 11-year-old daughter noticed the singer while staying at the same hotel. According to him, the child briefly looked at Roan, smiled, and returned to her table. He claimed that shortly after, a security guard approached them and spoke in a harsh and aggressive way.
Frello said the guard accused the child of being disrespectful and warned the mother about her behavior. He also claimed the guard threatened to report them to the hotel. “My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot,” he wrote, adding that the situation deeply upset her.
His post quickly gained attention, and he openly criticized Roan. He wrote that it was “sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans.” He also told her followers, “She does not deserve your affection.”

Roan responded the next day through a video shared on her Instagram Stories. She said she was not aware of the situation when it happened and only learned about it later. “I didn’t even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me. No one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel,” she said.
She also made it clear that the person involved was not part of her personal team. “I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child,” she explained. Roan said the family did nothing wrong and should not have been treated that way. “They weren’t doing anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions,” she said.

Roan apologized directly to the family. “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. That is crazy,” she said. She added, “I’m sorry to the mother and child… That makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”
The situation came at a busy time for the singer. She performed at the Lollapalooza Brazil on March 21, where she thanked her team, including security, during her set.
Roan has spoken before about her boundaries with fans. As her career grew in 2023 and 2024, she said she faced uncomfortable situations in public. In past videos, she explained that she does not accept harassment or unwanted contact. “I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, is a normal thing… That does not make it OK,” she said.
She has also said she does not feel she owes strangers her time. “If you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo or for your time, or for a hug. That’s not normal. That’s weird,” she said in a previous message.
This situation shows how quickly things can escalate, even when the artist is not directly involved. Security staff can act on their own, and sometimes they go too far. At the same time, public figures like Roan are under pressure all the time, and they try to protect their space. Still, the way the family was treated, if true, should not have happened.
