Chris Hemsworth is giving fans a glimpse of what’s next for Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor recently appeared on the SmartLess Podcast and revealed that after Avengers: Doomsday, there are already plans for the God of Thunder to return a few more times. “Yeah, it’s wild,” Hemsworth said, hinting that Marvel has big ideas for the character.

He also shared that he spoke with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about the future of Thor. “I was talking to Kevin Feige about it, and he said it’s cool because the audience now expects dramatic turns with the character,” Hemsworth explained. He added, “Whatever we do next—we’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be different.”

The actor confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday is taking Thor in a more serious direction. Fans noticed this in the teaser, which shows a grounded, intense version of the character. Hemsworth said during an appearance on The View, “Yeah, you get a taste from [the teaser]. That is a different tone than, I guess, what Love and Thunder was.”

Thor has had a big evolution in the MCU. From the Shakespearean prince in the first films, he became a cosmic goofball in Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder. Hemsworth admitted he contributed to pushing the character into more comedic territory. Now, it seems Marvel is dialing it back.

Hemsworth shared that one of the benefits of working in the MCU for over a decade is the chance to explore different sides of Thor. “I was able to, every couple of films, change the tone of the character. Some people find it disruptive, but for my own artistic journey and adventure, it’s been a great blessing to be able to do that,” he said.

Avengers: Doomsday looks like it will show Thor carrying heavier responsibilities. The teaser hints at him protecting his daughter while facing multiverse-level threats. Hemsworth said, “This film, you see from the trailer, he’s asking for help from his father upstairs. And there’s a lot of pressure, and I can’t say much at all. Every word I’m saying, that’s one too many.”

For fans who felt Love and Thunder leaned too far into comedy, this reset could bring the balance Thor needs. The film could combine his power, emotional depth, and occasional humor, creating one of the most layered versions of the character yet. With Anthony and Joe Russo directing, Thor’s journey in Avengers: Doomsday promises to be pivotal for the MCU.

This shift for Thor is exciting. Hemsworth has shown he can handle both humor and emotional weight, and a more serious Thor could bring new energy to the MCU. I’m curious how Marvel will balance his past comedic moments with these darker stakes.
