Chris Noth has addressed the controversy over a recent comment he made on Instagram that seemed to target his former “Sex and the City” co-star Sarah Jessica Parker.

The actor took to Instagram on Wednesday to clarify what happened. “My off-the-cuff slightly sarcastic response to a comment on the internet seems to have caused a tempest in a teapot,” Noth wrote. “It is not news. It is not worth all this discussion. It is a waste of time in a world where there are more important things to worry about.”

The incident started after Noth shared a gym selfie on January 9 with the caption, “F*** new years – LET’S GO!!!!” A fan replied jokingly, “You mean f*** sjp & her award right? lol,” referencing Parker receiving the Carol Burnett Award at the Golden Globes. Noth responded with a simple, “Right,” which sparked online debate.

This isn’t the first time Noth has been in the public eye for controversy. In December 2021, two women accused him of s**** assault. One woman, identified as Zoe in The Hollywood Reporter, said the assault happened in Los Angeles in 2004, while another woman, Lilly, said it occurred in New York City in 2015. Noth denied the claims, calling them “categorically false.”

Following these allegations, Noth was removed from the cast of both “The Equalizer” and the “Sex and the City” sequel series, And Just Like That. Parker, along with co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, released a joint statement supporting the women. “We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth. We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it must be a very difficult thing to do and we commend them for it,” they said.

Noth’s latest comment, he says, was not meant to be taken seriously and was simply a sarcastic reply to a fan. “It was just an off-the-cuff, slightly sarcastic response,” he explained.

It’s clear the actor wants the focus to be on more important issues than a fleeting social media comment.
