Chris Pratt is getting criticism online after sharing a short prayer video that some fans say does not look genuine. In the clip, the 46-year-old actor recites Psalm 46:10 and asks viewers to “just stop real quick and pray” with him.

However, many noticed that his eyes were partially open, as if he was reading from his phone.

“His eyes not fully closed all the way so he can read the verses is sending me,” one social media user commented.

At the end of the video, Pratt suggested people take a break from their phones, saying, “Now you can continue scrolling or you can turn your phone off and go outside. Might I suggest the latter? Go get some sunshine. Go look at a tree, touch some grass. Call a friend. If you’ve got time to be on your phone right now, you’ve got time to do your to-do list and you’ve got time to reach out to somebody in need.”

This video comes shortly after Pratt expressed his condolences for the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk, 31, died after a fatal attack at a speaking event at Utah Valley University on September 10. Pratt posted on X, “Praying for Charlie Kirk right now, for his wife and young children, for our country. We need God’s grace. God help us.”

Pratt has a long history with faith. He was raised Lutheran and later worked with Jews for Jesus before identifying as a non-denominational Christian.

He attends Zoe Church in Los Angeles. The church came under public scrutiny after actor Elliot Page claimed it had connections to anti-LGBTQ views through a former Hillsong pastor.

Pratt defended his church, saying, “It has recently been suggested that I belong to a church which ‘hates a certain group of people’ and is ‘infamously anti-LGBTQ.’ Nothing could be further from the truth. I go to a church that opens its doors to absolutely everyone.”

Director James Gunn, who directed Guardians of the Galaxy, also defended Pratt, saying he knows the church and criticizing calls for Pratt to be replaced as Star-Lord.

In addition to his faith, Pratt has tried to stay politically neutral. He has expressed a desire to bring people together instead of taking sides. In 2020, he and his wife Katherine became Global Ambassadors for the Special Olympics. In 2024, he wrote an op-ed for Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper about the presidential election, emphasizing unity over political allegiance.

Despite his past work and charity efforts, Pratt’s prayer video has sparked debate online. Some fans question whether his actions are sincere or just for attention.
