Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Drops New Promo Featuring Anne Hathaway
A new promo video for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey has been released, featuring Anne Hathaway in a calm but mysterious voiceover that hints at the film’s deeper themes. In the clip, Hathaway speaks directly to viewers, offering a message that mixes reflection, strength, and hidden meaning.
In the promo, Hathaway says, “Hello travelers, not all challenges present themselves in the battlefield. Some wars are fought with patience, intellect, and craft. Strength lives in these moments, and resolve and hope, and is held fast against all odds. Pay close attention to the pattern of the fabric seen here, it is ephemeral.” The line has sparked attention online because of its unusual focus on patience and symbolism rather than action.
The Odyssey is an upcoming epic fantasy action film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem of the same name. The film follows Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, played by Matt Damon, as he struggles to return home after the Trojan War. His journey is long and dangerous, filled with mythical encounters, while he tries to reunite with his wife Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway.
The movie has a large ensemble cast. Alongside Damon and Hathaway, the film features Tom Holland as Telemachus, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Zendaya as Athena, Lupita Nyong’o in dual roles, and Charlize Theron as Calypso. Other cast members include Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Himesh Patel, and Mia Goth, among many others.
According to production details, Nolan began writing the film in March 2024. Universal Pictures secured the project later that year, and casting continued through early 2025. Filming took place across multiple countries including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, Western Sahara, Malta, and the United States. The film is also notable for being shot entirely on IMAX 70mm film, making it one of Nolan’s most technically ambitious projects.
The production is handled by Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas through their company Syncopy. The film is described as a realistic take on Greek mythology, inspired by Emily Wilson’s modern translation of The Odyssey and the visual style of classic fantasy filmmaking.
The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 17, and will be shown in IMAX theaters.
As anticipation builds, the new promo featuring Hathaway adds another layer of mystery to the project, suggesting that The Odyssey will not only focus on physical journeys, but also on emotional and intellectual battles along the way.
