‘Christy’ Star Sydney Sweeney’s Sparkling Vintage Armani Gown Steals the Spotlight Again in New Venice Photos
The 83rd Venice International Film Festival wrapped on September 12, but Sydney Sweeney‘s Venice trip is still giving fashion fans plenty to talk about. Her time in Italy has kept resurfacing in feeds ever since. That is impressive for someone who had no film to promote at this year’s festival.
Sweeney landed in Venice on September 2 wearing an archive look from Georges Chakra’s Spring 2003 collection. It paired a sheer lace halter top with beige Bermuda shorts, and she added pink Gianvito Rossi clear mules. She had stepped back from the red carpet earlier in the year after a huge career year and the finale of ‘Euphoria’, so the trip marked a return to the spotlight.
A fresh set of images from her time in Venice is now making the rounds. In one, Sweeney smiles warmly beside a staircase, glancing back toward the camera with her blonde waves falling past her shoulders. In the other, she beams as she walks through a busy Venetian street at night, with a crowd blurring behind her.

Both photos show the same standout piece: a shimmering gunmetal-grey gown with thin straps and a dark floral embellishment at the shoulder. It is the vintage Giorgio Armani dress she wore to the Armani Beauty dinner on September 3. The look quickly became one of the most talked-about of her trip.
The gown comes from Armani’s Fall/Winter 2000 collection and was sourced from Raffe Vintage. It is covered in silver sequins and tiny beads and has a backless silhouette. The small rosette appliqué at the shoulder is the detail that stands out most in the new photos.

Sweeney wore it as an ambassador for Armani Beauty, which was marking its ninth consecutive year as the festival’s official beauty sponsor. The dinner took place in the Royal Gardens, just steps from St. Mark’s Square. Her blonde hair was styled in soft waves, with subtle makeup letting the dress do the talking.

She wasn’t the only star in Armani’s orbit that night. Kendall Jenner wore a vintage 1995 Armani gown, while Jonathan Bailey, Vittoria Ceretti, Nicholas Galitzine, Nina Dobrev, Carlos Sainz and J Balvin were also among the guests.

The Armani gown fits neatly into a larger pattern. Sweeney’s entire Venice wardrobe leaned on decades-old designer pieces. Earlier on September 2, she headed to dinner at Harry’s Bar in an archival strapless white Chanel dress from Spring 1987 by Karl Lagerfeld.
Later, she was photographed boarding a speedboat in a white lace midi dress with a sheer skirt. Style writers started describing her trip as a streak of semi-sheer, vintage-heavy looks. They also noted how deliberately she mixed daytime ease with after-dark drama.

Venice has also become something of a recurring backdrop for Sweeney’s most memorable fashion moments. She attended the festival in 2022, 2023 and 2024 before skipping it last year. She was also in the city in June last year for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding, where she met her boyfriend, music executive Scooter Braun.
Braun joined her again this time, and the couple were photographed enjoying a romantic gondola ride. For fans, that adds a sentimental layer to a trip that has already produced so many standout outfits.
Sweeney has been an Armani Beauty ambassador since early 2023 and has fronted several campaigns for the brand. That history explains why an archival Armani gown felt so natural on her in Venice.
More than a month later, the sequined gown still holds its shine. It also shows how a single well-chosen vintage piece can keep a fashion moment alive long after the festival has ended.
