Murphy has a long history with BAFTA. He won for his role in Oppenheimer in 2024 and has received several nominations over the years, including one in 2007 for the Rising Star award and another in 2023 for his performance in Peaky Blinders. This year, although he was not individually nominated, he appears in Steve, a film up for Outstanding British Film.
Fans of Peaky Blinders have even more reason to be excited. Murphy will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby in the upcoming film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which is set to hit theaters on March 6. The series originally ran for six seasons and followed Shelby’s rise from a small-time gangster in post-WWI Birmingham to a wealthy businessman and politician.
Speaking to The Observer, Murphy explained his return to the franchise: “We got a really good script, and I have a sense of duty to the fans because, in many ways, they made the show the success that it is. It’s a proper bookend to the whole 36 hours of television.”
Murphy’s appearance at the BAFTAs reminds everyone why he is considered one of the most stylish and talented actors of his generation. He blends classic style with a strong screen presence, whether on stage, on set, or on the red carpet.
