Cody Rhodes Suits Up as Guile in First Look at Live-Action ‘Street Fighter’ Movie
The live-action Street Fighter movie is still in development, though fans will need to wait longer to see it. Legendary Entertainment is producing the project, and Sony Pictures will handle distribution. The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai, who joined after some changes behind the scenes.
Street Fighter is based on Capcom’s world-famous fighting game series. Legendary announced back in April 2023 that they had secured the film and TV rights. At first, YouTube creators Danny and Michael Philippou, also known as RackaRacka, were in talks to direct.
They later stepped away to work on another film, and in September 2024 Sakurai was officially confirmed as the new director. The movie was once scheduled for March 20, 2026, but in March 2025 it was taken off the release calendar and delayed without a new date.
The cast is full of big names. Andrew Koji will play Ryu, while Noah Centineo is set as Ken Masters. Jason Momoa has been cast as Blanka, Callina Liang will play Chun-Li, and David Dastmalchian is taking the role of M. Bison. Cody Rhodes, the current Undisputed WWE Champion, has been revealed as Guile, and fans just got their first peek at him in character.

Roman Reigns, another WWE star, has joined as Akuma. Comedian Andrew Schulz is also in the film as Dan Hibiki, who is described as a wannabe martial artist. The rest of the cast includes 50 Cent as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, and Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim.
Filming is set to start on September 2. That has caused some concern among fans since Rhodes is still WWE Champion, and it’s unclear how his schedule will work. According to reports, Roman Reigns will take time off wrestling to shoot the movie, but Rhodes’ plans are unknown.
Reigns has already been confirmed for WWE Clash in Paris on August 31, just days before production begins. Both wrestlers were missing from recent WWE RAW and SmackDown episodes, which only added to the questions about their availability.
Outside of wrestling, Rhodes has already been dipping into Hollywood. He appeared in the Naked Gun reboot alongside Liam Neeson. Speaking on the “SI Media” podcast, Rhodes shared how special the experience was. “Getting to share the screen with him was surreal. I learned a lot just by watching how he carries himself,” Rhodes said.
Even though the movie has no new release date, fans are eager to see how this cast brings the iconic Street Fighter characters to life on the big screen.
