Creepy Netflix Documentary Becomes a Global Sensation
Netflix’s new documentary series, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, is drawing major attention worldwide.
Released on December 2, the series examines the s**** misconduct allegations against rapper and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. Directed by Alexandria Stapleton, the miniseries has quickly become one of the most-watched titles on the platform.
The documentary combines archival footage of Combs with interviews from several notable figures in the music industry, including Kalenna Harper, Aubrey O’Day, Erick Sermon, Al B. Sure!, Mark Curry, Lil’ Cease, Greg Kading, Roger Bonds, and others. The goal, according to the producers, was to capture a full picture of the events while giving a platform to those directly affected.

The project was initially announced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson on December 7, 2023. Jackson revealed that proceeds from the documentary would be directed to the victims of the alleged misconduct.
He spent months developing the series, seeking out individuals close to Combs who were willing to share their experiences. While Combs’s former partner, Cassie Ventura, declined to participate, Jackson said he spoke with her and her husband to understand their perspective.
Netflix announced the series on September 25, 2024, shortly after Combs faced legal trouble, including arrests related to racketeering, s** trafficking, and p*******. Jackson and Stapleton emphasized that the series aims to provide an honest, nuanced view, beyond just the headlines. Stapleton confirmed that all personal footage of Combs used in the series was obtained legally.
“We have to find somebody that will work with us…somebody that has dealt in the dirtiest of dirty business.”

The series debuted with a trailer on December 1, and launched on Netflix the following day. In its first week, the show was streamed 21.8 million times, making it the second-most-viewed series on Netflix for that period, just behind Stranger Things Season 5, Volume 1.
This documentary has sparked conversations across social media, both for its subject matter and its rapid rise in viewership. It highlights the ongoing discussions around accountability in the entertainment industry while showing how documentaries can shape public awareness.
