Great news is here for everyone who loves watching the British royals on their TV screens. Netflix has officially decided to move forward with a brand new prequel to its hit show called The Crown.

According to a report from Parade, this massive deal is worth about 676 million dollars. Fans have been waiting for this for a long time since the original show ended back in 2023.

The original creator Peter Morgan is coming back to lead the project and make sure it is just as good as the first one. The first series was a huge success and won 24 Emmys and eight Golden Globes during its run.

Even though some people pointed out that some parts of the story were not perfectly true to history, people still loved it. Now we get to see what happened before the wedding of Elizabeth and Philip.

This new prequel is going to cover 50 years of history that happened before the original show started. It will begin with the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 and go all the way up to where the first show began.

This means we will get to see the lives of four different kings named Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, and George VI. It will be a very busy show because so much happened during that time in the world.

The story will show us what it was like during both of the World Wars which were very scary and difficult times. It will also cover when the royal family changed their name to the House of Windsor in 1917.

One of the biggest parts of the story will likely be the huge mess in 1936 when King Edward VIII gave up his throne for love. We might even see a young version of Queen Elizabeth II while her grandfather was still in charge.

Many fans were hoping to see a modern show about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but that is not happening yet. Peter Morgan has a very specific way of choosing which stories he wants to tell.

He likes to wait a long time so he can really see how important an event actually was in the long run. He explained his process by saying, I sort of have in my head a 20-year rule. That is enough time and enough distance to really understand something, to understand its role, to understand its position, to understand its relevance. Often things that appear absolutely wildly important today are instantly forgotten, and other things have a habit of sticking around and proving to be historically very relevant and long-lasting.

This means he thinks we need distance to truly know if a story is worth telling on a show like this. By looking at the distant past, he can find the things that really changed the world forever.

The prequel will likely be just as fancy and dramatic as the original show that everyone talked about. People are already very hungry for more royal drama and this new series should give them exactly what they want.

It is exciting to think about all the famous historical figures we will get to see on screen again. With so much money being spent on this project, it is clear that Netflix believes people still really care about the royal family.

We will have to wait and see who they pick to play these famous kings and queens from the past. As of April 30th, 2026, the green light has been given to start moving on this exciting new project.

Please share your thoughts on whether you are excited for this royal prequel in the comments.
