‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Season 2 Production Confirmed With Haunting New Teaser

At Anime Expo 2025, fans of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners were hit with some huge news: the anime is officially getting a second season. The announcement came with a brand new teaser and poster, giving everyone a glimpse of what’s next for Night City.
Some familiar voices showed up for the event too. Emi Lo, who voices Lucy, and Zach Aguilar, the voice of David Martinez, made appearances and were met with big cheers. Writer and producer Bartosz Sztybor was also there, and to everyone’s surprise, director Hiroyuki Imaishi joined the panel as well.
When asked why they decided to make a sequel, Sztybor said he always hoped the story wouldn’t end with just one season.
David is dead. But Night City lives on.

“Night City has so many stories to tell,” he said. “I wasn’t satisfied with the sadness… so I want you to be even more sad now.”
Netflix dropped a short teaser right after the announcement, and it hit hard. It reminded fans that David is gone, but the city is still full of life, pain, and stories waiting to unfold.
The second season will once again have ten episodes and take place in the same world as Cyberpunk 2077. This time around, Kai Ikarashi is stepping up as the director. He’s the one who directed episode six from the first season, the one titled “Girl on Fire.” The new story is being described as “a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge.”
There’s a haunting question tied to the story: “When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?”
The original anime was made by Studio TRIGGER, working with CD Projekt Red, the same company behind the Cyberpunk 2077 game. The first season came out in 2022 and quickly blew up, winning awards like Best New Anime and Best Original Anime. It followed a street kid trying to survive in the brutal, tech-heavy world of Night City by becoming an edgerunner.
Recently, a prequel manga focusing on Rebecca and Pilar was released too, showing fans even more of the world and its wild characters.
CD Projekt Red’s Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed that the new season is in production and will be coming to Netflix, though he didn’t give an exact date.
“It will come in due time,” he said.
Fans are already getting hyped. The teaser might have been short, but it was enough to spark a lot of feelings. And if what Sztybor said is any clue, this new season is going to be even more emotional and intense than the first.
Night City isn’t done with us yet.
