Daisy Ridley Faces the Undead in New ‘We Bury The Dead’ Trailer
A new trailer has dropped for We Bury the Dead, the zombie survival thriller starring Daisy Ridley. The movie, written and directed by Zak Hilditch, follows Ridley’s character, Ava Newman, on a terrifying journey to find her missing husband after a catastrophic military experiment.
Her search leads her to join a “body retrieval unit,” only to discover that the corpses she is burying are starting to come back to life.
The cast also includes Mark Coles Smith, Brenton Thwaites, Kym Jackson, and Matt Whelan. Daisy Ridley plays the lead role of Ava, while Mark Coles Smith and Brenton Thwaites play key supporting roles. The story blends horror, action, and emotion as Ava faces grief, loss, and the undead.
Star Wars’ star Daisy Ridley isn’t the only one with unfinished business in the new trailer for WE BURY THE DEAD; the dead are returning to life after a catastrophe.

We Bury the Dead had its world premiere at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival in March. The movie is set for a limited theatrical release in the United States on January 2, 2026, and in Australia and New Zealand on February 5, 2026.
Early reactions to the film have been positive. On Rotten Tomatoes, 90% of 20 critics gave favorable reviews. Katie Rife of IndieWire praised the movie, saying, “Overall, the craft of the movie is top-notch, with compelling performances, urgent pacing, and gorgeous cinematography.”
Siddhant Adlakha of Variety added, “At its most interesting and exciting when it approaches the well-worn [zombie] subgenre with brand-new spins, resulting in haunting scenes that open a cinematic window into the darkest, most mysterious parts of the human condition. Unfortunately, it keeps swerving back toward traditional horror territory at breakneck speed, resulting in a lopsided structure.”
