Daniel Radcliffe Explains Why He Refuses to Join Social Media — and Has Zero Regrets
Daniel Radcliffe has shared why he has chosen to stay away from social media, and the reason is simple. He wants to protect his mental health.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the actor said he has never felt tempted to join platforms like Instagram or X. When asked if he ever feels left out, Radcliffe shut that idea down fast. “Literally never,” he said.
Radcliffe explained that social media looks exhausting to him. He said he already feels enough pressure in daily life and does not believe scrolling, posting, or reading comments would make things better. “Honestly, it seems so stressful,” he said. “I’m stressed enough. I don’t think that would do wonders for my mental health.”
At the time of the interview, Radcliffe was busy preparing for his new Broadway solo show, Every Brilliant Thing, which opens in March at the Hudson Theatre. He joked that while others around him talk about apps designed to limit phone use, he has solved the problem by simply not being on social media at all.
Although he still uses the internet, Radcliffe said he avoids social platforms on purpose. He admitted that this choice might make him seem very old to his young son one day, but he is fine with that. “But yeah, I can’t do it,” he said.
The actor shares a two-year-old son with his wife, actress Erin Darke. The couple has kept their child’s name private.
This is not the first time Radcliffe has spoken openly about this topic. In past interviews, including an appearance on First We Feast’s Hot Ones, he said he avoided Twitter because he knew it could bring out his worst habits. He believed he would end up arguing with strangers online and regretting it.
Radcliffe also admitted that when he was younger, he used to search for comments about himself online. Looking back, he called that behavior unhealthy and said social media feels like an extension of that same cycle. He added that even reading only positive comments can be damaging in its own way.
He has been clear about knowing his limits. Radcliffe said he does not feel mentally strong enough to manage social media and has accepted that without shame.
Radcliffe’s honesty is refreshing. In a world where celebrities are expected to be online all the time, choosing peace over attention sends a strong message. It also shows that setting boundaries is not a weakness. What do you think about his choice to stay off social media? Would you do the same? Share your thoughts in the comments.
