‘Daredevil: Born Again’s Angie Kim: Everything You Need To Know About MCU’s New Original Character

Share:

The latest episodes of Daredevil: Born Again have hit Disney+ and gave us a look at a few familiar faces: Jack Duquesne, AKA Swordsman – who appeared in Hawkeye and, of course, Kamala’s dad, Yusuf Khan. A few minutes of screen time were also given to the “new” (she appeared in the first episode of the series) character, detective Angie Kim.

So, who is ‘Daredevil: Born Again’s Angie Kim?

Angie Kim works for the New York City Police Department, partnering with another detective named Cherry. The two share a strong bond, even if they don’t always see eye to eye.

At Cherry’s retirement party in Josie’s Bar (Episode 1), they clash over vigilantes like Daredevil and White Tiger. Cherry thinks the police are losing their grip because of these masked crime-fighters. Angie, though, has a different take. She believes some vigilantes truly want to help, while others just crave power.

Their debate was cut short when Bullseye crashed the party, tossing a smoke grenade and starting a deadly rampage. Angie and Cherry jumped into action, saving people and facing the killer head-on. And that was basically all we got from the character until the last two episodes.

Episodes five and six showed more of Angie Kim. During a bank robbery, Angie took charge as the police negotiator, trying to outsmart the thieves. She stayed cool under pressure (even doing that pretty good Irish accent; props to the actress), proving she’s more than just talk.

Who plays Angie Kim?

Ruibo Qian brings Angie to life with grit and charm. Born in Shanghai and raised in Texas, Qian has a solid acting resume. She’s been in TV shows like Jessica Jones (different character tough) and Black Mirror, plus movies like Manchester by the Sea.

Angie Kim is not a character from Marvel Comics

Since Angie isn’t tied to the comics, the writers have free rein to take her anywhere. Will she team up with Daredevil or try to lock him up? That’s the big question we will probably get the answer to in the next few episodes (the best bet is she will probably be okay with Matt’s vigilante persona based on what she said in the first episode).

Hell’s Kitchen is a mess of crime and heroes, and Angie Kim’s characters fit right in. She’s an okay addition to Daredevil: Born Again and with more episodes to come, I guess she will get a bit more screen time.
