Dario Scardapane Has Exited ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 in the Middle of Post-Production

Marvel Television has spent the past several years working to stabilize its once-sprawling Disney+ slate, and ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ had largely been considered one of the more successful results of that effort. Bringing Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio back as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk gave the studio a genuine flagship revival within its street-level corner of the MCU.

That stability took an unexpected hit this week, with a series of behind-the-scenes shakeups landing in quick succession. What had been a fairly steady production suddenly became one of the more chaotic stories in Marvel’s television division.

Sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that showrunner Dario Scardapane has exited ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3, with his contract not renewed. The exit is particularly striking given the timing, as Scardapane is departing in the middle of the season’s post-production process, roughly two months after filming wrapped.

That leaves it unclear who will ultimately guide the season through to completion, given how far along the post-production work already was when the news broke. Marvel has offered no official comment on the departure.

Scardapane’s connection to the Daredevil universe predates ‘Born Again’ itself, having previously headed the Netflix ‘Punisher’ series starring Jon Bernthal. He returned to take the reins of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ after the show underwent a significant creative overhaul during its original development, one that saw the project go on hiatus during the 2023 Hollywood strikes before being reworked with more original characters restored to the narrative.

Scardapane took over more fully with Season 2, steering the show through what many critics considered a genuine improvement over its freshman outing. His departure now comes at what would otherwise be the final stretch of finishing the series’ third and reportedly final season.

Scardapane’s exit arrives alongside news that Season 3 will mark the end of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ altogether, closing the book on a series that successfully brought back several major players from the original Netflix ‘Daredevil’ run. The season is still on track to premiere in March 2027, even without its longtime showrunner steering it to the finish line.

For a series that’s undergone this much behind-the-scenes turbulence throughout its run, from strike-related delays to a full creative overhaul, Scardapane’s departure adds yet another chapter to an already complicated production history. What remains to be seen is who Marvel taps to complete the post-production work he leaves behind.
