David Corenswet Would Trade the Cape for a Lightsaber — Picks Jedi Over Superman
David Corenswet may be the new Superman, but deep down, he’s still a Star Wars guy. In a recent Vanity Fair video where he and his Superman co-star Nicholas Hoult hooked up to a lie detector, David didn’t hold back about where his heart truly lies.
During the interview, the two actors asked each other all sorts of questions. When Nicholas brought up Star Wars, David admitted he’s a longtime fan.
He said he often watches Star Wars marathons on New Year’s Eve, usually powering through three or four movies in one sitting. When Nicholas asked him to quote a line from the films, David laughed and said he remembers them while watching but can’t recall any off the top of his head.
Then came the big question: Would he rather return for a Superman sequel or play a Jedi in Star Wars? David paused, took a deep breath, and answered: “Jedi Knight in Star Wars.” The lie detector confirmed he was telling the truth. Nicholas looked stunned and asked if that was a tough choice. David admitted, “It was among them!”
He also joked that money had a little something to do with it. “I’m already under contract for a sequel, but I’d be fresh negotiating with Star Wars, so…” he said with a grin.
David also shared that his actual dream Star Wars role might not be what people expect. While being a Jedi was a childhood fantasy, he now leans more toward something simpler. “My dream role I think would be to play like an X-wing pilot in a Star Wars film,” he said. “A Jedi was sort of my childhood dream, but now, since I’m into aviation, that like sitting in an X-wing cockpit sounds so—first of all, great way to shoot a movie. You’re just sitting in the cockpit. You don’t have to learn any choreography, you just beep-boop-boop-boop,” he added, laughing.
David Corenswet stars as the Man of Steel in the Superman movie directed by James Gunn, hitting theaters July 11. Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan takes on the role of Lois Lane.
So while David is flying high as Superman on-screen, it seems like in his heart, he’s still ready to hop in an X-wing and head to a galaxy far, far away.
