David Dastmalchian Hopes to Take on Marvel’s Infamous Meme-Worthy Villain

David Dastmalchian, who has already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in two roles, revealed in a recent interview that he has a dream character he would love to play: Morbius.

The actor told fans he has always been drawn to the darker, more unusual characters in the MCU.

“I’ve always wanted to take a crack at Morbius, the living vampire. I would love the opportunity to play Dr. Michael Morbius. Oh, my God. There’s so many great characters in the MCU, and I’ve always been a fan of the horror and the weirder characters. Anybody from the West Coast Avengers would be fun for me to get to play around with,” Dastmalchian said.

He also mentioned other characters that interest him, like Marvel’s version of Dracula, and expressed enthusiasm for the more monster-themed heroes and stories, including the Midnight Suns and the old Defenders series.

Outside of the MCU, Dastmalchian is known for his roles in major films such as Oppenheimer, Dune: Part One, and The Suicide Squad.

The character of Morbius, a living vampire, was brought to the screen in 2022 by Sony Pictures in their Spider-Man Universe.

Jared Leto starred as Dr. Michael Morbius, with Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, and others in supporting roles. The story follows Morbius and his surrogate brother Milo as they become vampires while trying to cure a rare blood disease.

Despite the film’s ambitious concept, it was met with criticism for its writing and visual effects, and it became widely mocked online, turning into a popular meme. The film also performed poorly at the box office, grossing $167.5 million worldwide, and received several Golden Raspberry nominations, including Worst Actor for Leto.

Dastmalchian’s interest in Morbius shows his willingness to embrace unconventional and challenging roles within the Marvel Universe. His fascination with darker, horror-influenced characters could bring a fresh perspective to the franchise if given the opportunity.
