David Harbour says filming Avengers: Doomsday was unlike anything he’s ever experienced in his acting career.

Speaking with ScreenRant’s Joe Decklemeier at Rose City Comic Con, the Thunderbolts* actor talked about his time on set and praised directors Joe and Anthony Russo for the way they put massive Marvel movies together.

Harbour, who plays Red Guardian in the MCU, admitted he was surprised by just how impressive the project turned out to be. “I was not even convinced when we started, and this movie’s gonna be really good. They have a special sauce. I don’t even really understand, but they [the Russos] just know how to do these things,” Harbour said.

He compared Doomsday to big Marvel crossover events of the past, adding, “As evidenced in Civil War, as evidenced in Infinity War, there’s something about the layers in which they put the comedy and the drama and the surprises and the scale and the epicness and all that stuff. It’s incredible.”

The actor also shared how surreal it felt being part of such a massive production. “I will say I’ve never been on a set like this in my life. I’ve never seen anything like this. You saw those chairs. So it’s like, every one of those guys and girls has a trailer. It’s just insane to look around the room and be like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in the movie. There’s what’s his face doing that speech.’ It’s just enormous.”

Avengers: Doomsday is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.

The movie features a huge cast including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, Robert Downey Jr., and many more. In this film, the Avengers join forces with the Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the X-Men to face Doctor Doom, who will be played by Downey.

Production began in April, with filming taking place at Pinewood Studios in England as well as locations in Bahrain.

The movie will be the fifth Avengers installment and the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s set to hit theaters in the United States on December 18, 2026, with its sequel, Secret Wars, planned for release the following year.

Harbour’s excitement makes it sound like Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s biggest and boldest movies yet. With the Russo brothers returning and such a massive cast involved, it feels like the MCU is trying to recreate the scale of Infinity War and Endgame. But the big question is whether audiences will feel the same energy when the movie comes out. What do you think, will Doomsday live up to the hype? Share your thoughts in the comments.
