DCU’s ‘Wonder Woman’ Movie Has Found its Writer
DC Studios has finally chosen a writer for its new Wonder Woman movie. According to Variety, Ana Nogueira, who wrote the upcoming Supergirl film, has been hired to work on the reboot of Wonder Woman.
This news comes not long after Variety reported that DC was rushing to get the film moving, calling it a major priority for the studio. In fact, DC Studios co-head James Gunn told Entertainment Weekly that a Wonder Woman film “is being written right now.”
Nogueira is not new to the DC world. Besides Wonder Woman, she’s also working on a live-action Teen Titans movie for DC Studios.
Her first produced screenplay will be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is being directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Milly Alcock. That film is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. Before turning to writing, Nogueira worked as an actress, appearing in shows like The Vampire Diaries and Hightown.
Wonder Woman has been a big part of DC’s movie universe ever since Gal Gadot first played the hero in the 2017 film directed by Patty Jenkins. That movie was a huge success, making $822 million around the world.
Gadot returned for Wonder Woman 1984, which came out during the pandemic in 2020, and also played the character in Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and The Flash.
Things changed when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over at DC Studios. They’ve been rebooting the DC universe, starting with the animated series Creature Commandos and the new Superman film, which has already made over $400 million since its release in July. Interestingly, Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl, had a small cameo in that movie.
Besides the Wonder Woman movie, DC Studios is also working on Paradise Lost, a TV series for HBO set on Wonder Woman’s home of Themyscira. Gunn, however, mentioned that progress on that show has been “slow moving.”
TheWrap was the first to report that Ana Nogueira is writing the new Wonder Woman film.
