DiCaprio Tells Jennifer Lawrence He Skipped Watching His Biggest Film
Leonardo DiCaprio recently revealed to Jennifer Lawrence that he has never watched his most famous movie, Titanic. The admission came during a conversation for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, where the two Oscar winners discussed their work, careers, and acting experiences.
DiCaprio is currently starring in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, an action film featuring a large ensemble cast.
Jennifer Lawrence, meanwhile, delivers a powerful performance in Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love, playing a new mother dealing with postpartum depression. Both actors, who have been in the spotlight since they were young, spoke candidly about acting and their past experiences on set.
During the conversation, Lawrence asked DiCaprio if he had ever watched Titanic, the 1997 blockbuster that made him a global star. DiCaprio admitted, “No. I haven’t seen it before.”
Lawrence encouraged him to watch it, saying, “Oh, you should. I bet you could watch it now, it’s so good.” DiCaprio explained that he generally avoids watching his own films, asking Lawrence, “I don’t really watch my films, do you?”
She agreed, adding, “No. I’ve never made something like ‘Titanic,’ if I did I would watch it. Once I was really drunk, I put on ‘American Hustle.’ I was like, ‘I wonder if I’m good at acting?’ I put it on, and I don’t remember what the answer is.”
Titanic is widely considered DiCaprio’s biggest hit because it became a global phenomenon, earning more than $2 billion at the box office. The film won 11 Academy Awards and remains one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. It cemented DiCaprio as an international superstar and defined a major part of his career.
The conversation highlighted how both actors focus more on the craft of acting than revisiting their past successes. DiCaprio’s honesty shows that even when an actor has been part of a historic film, they may choose not to relive it.
