Did We Just Get an Official Confirmation That Pattinson’s ‘The Batman Part II’ Is Replacing the DCU’s ‘Brave and the Bold’?

Robert Pattinson will be back in the Batsuit after all. It looks like the script for The Batman 2 is finally done. Matt Reeves, who directed and co-wrote the first film, just posted a photo on X that’s getting a lot of attention.
In the picture, he’s sitting next to screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, and between them is what fans believe is the finished script for the sequel. Reeves didn’t say much, but the post itself was enough to get DC fans excited.
The photo seems to confirm that progress is being made on the next chapter of this darker, moodier Batman universe. Since the first movie came out in 2022, fans have been waiting for an update.
Reeves gave us a very different version of Batman, one that focused more on the detective side of the character and leaned into Gotham’s gritty vibe. Robert Pattinson played the role with a kind of quiet intensity that really stood out from past versions.
Around the same time Reeves posted the picture, The Hollywood Reporter shared their own update. They confirmed that the script for The Batman 2 is finished. But they also made an interesting comment about another Batman project. “But you can ask Gunn who’s writing The Brave and the Bold movie because we aren’t convinced there is one.” That line got people talking. Is The Brave and the Bold still happening, or is it quietly being shelved?
That’s not the first time people have questioned if DC Studios is still serious about making The Brave and the Bold. We still don’t know much about that movie. Director Andy Muschietti was announced for the project, and the story was supposed to be inspired by Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert’s comic run where Bruce Wayne finds out he has a son, Damian, with Talia al Ghul. But there hasn’t been much news since. The project reportedly has a writer already.
Meanwhile, The Batman 2 is moving forward. The sequel was first announced back in April 2022 at CinemaCon. Pattinson is back as Batman, Reeves is directing again, and Mattson Tomlin is helping write the script.
At first, the movie was called The Batman – Part II, but that title isn’t being used anymore. Filming is expected to start in late 2025, and the movie is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Some familiar faces are returning, including Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
There’s also been a lot of talk about how all these Batman projects fit into the bigger DC picture. Since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, fans have been asking how Pattinson’s Batman connects to the main DC Universe. Gunn has been clear that Reeves’ films are part of the “Elseworlds” label. That means they don’t exist in the same universe as the new Superman or the rest of the upcoming DCU.
Gunn has said that there’s room for different kinds of stories, and he respects what Reeves is doing. “When it’s somebody who’s important, like Matt Reeves… then you have to stand up and listen,” he said.
Some people wonder if it would just be easier for Gunn to bring Reeves’ Batman into the DCU instead of starting over with The Brave and the Bold. But that seems unlikely. The two directors have very different ideas. Gunn likes big, wild, comic book-style stories. Reeves is more focused on grounded, crime-driven tales. It would be hard to mash those two styles together.
At the moment, it looks like both projects still technically exist. But one is clearly moving ahead, and the other seems to be stuck. Until Gunn says otherwise, fans are watching closely to see if The Brave and the Bold actually happens, or if The Batman becomes the only Batman story that really matters at DC right now.
