Disney Cancels 2027 Marvel Movie
Marvel Studios has removed a planned 2027 movie from its release calendar, leaving fans curious about what happened to the mysterious project.
The untitled film was originally scheduled for July 23, 2027, but Disney confirmed that date has now been replaced.
According to Variety, the July 2027 slot will now feature The Simpsons Movie 2, a sequel nearly 20 years in the making. Disney has not revealed whether the Marvel project will be rescheduled or if it has been cancelled entirely.
Before this change, there was speculation about what the secret 2027 film could have been. Sources had suggested it might be a sequel to Shang-Chi, Black Panther 3, or Doctor Strange 3, with Doctor Strange 3 considered the most likely candidate.
Disney has confirmed the film is no longer on the official schedule, but details beyond that are scarce.
With this shift, the next confirmed Marvel releases are Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. Marvel also has four open dates for 2028, but it is unclear if the cancelled 2027 film will move to one of those slots.
This means Marvel will have one fewer movie in the 2027 lineup than originally planned, slowing the pace of releases for that year.
While it’s disappointing not to see a surprise Marvel movie in mid-2027, this gives the studio more room to focus on quality storytelling for its upcoming films. What do you think about Disney removing this 2027 Marvel movie? Share your thoughts in the comments.
