Disney Branded Television has officially approved a new supernatural teen series called “Coven Academy.” The show will follow three teenage witches learning to harness their powers while facing magical dangers and the everyday challenges of growing up. According to Disney, the series is set to debut on Disney+ and Disney Channel sometime in 2026.

The series comes from Tim Federle, who created the Emmy-winning “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” which starred a young Olivia Rodrigo. Disney initially ordered a pilot for “Coven Academy” in March, and the project has now been given a full greenlight.

Federle wrote and directed the pilot and is also serving as an executive producer alongside Kimberly McCullough and Bronwyn North-Reist of Chorus Boy Productions.

Set in New Orleans, “Coven Academy” is described as a “thrilling, witty blend of magic, mystery and teen drama,” according to Disney’s official announcement. The story centers on teenage witches who are “bound by destiny to guard their city against dangerous, ancient forces.” The witches must deal with dark secrets, volatile magic, rivalries, and the ups and downs of friendship and self-discovery.

The series features Malina Pauli Weissman, known for “Ick” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” as Briar, one of the young witches. Tiffani Thiessen, familiar from “Alexa and Katie” and “90210,” will play Miss Graves. Other main cast members include Malachi Barton from “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires” as Jake, Louis Thresher from “Boarders” as Ollie, Jordan Leftwich from “Family Switch” as Sasha, and Ora Duplass from “Their Town” as Tegan.

Recurring guest stars include Brendon Tremblay from “Descendants: Wicked Wonderland” as Alexander, Swayam Bhatia as McKenna, and Keegan Connor Tracy from “Once Upon a Time” as Tamora.

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, spoke about the series, saying, “‘Coven Academy’ is an innovative format that blends supernatural intrigue with the friendships, challenges and self-discovery of the teenage experience. Under Tim Federle’s creative leadership, this magical high school comes alive with a breakout cast, continuing our tradition of creating stories and stars that connect deeply with today’s generation.”

In addition to “Coven Academy,” Federle is also executive producing an upcoming Disney Channel live-action comedy called “Vampirina: Teenage Vampire,” which will premiere on September 12.

With its mix of magic, mystery, and teen drama, “Coven Academy” is shaping up to be one of Disney’s major new series for young audiences, and fans are already excited to meet the witches-in-training when the show debuts in 2026.
