Disney+ Reveals the Marvel Homework You Need Before Watching ‘VisionQuest’
Marvel fans know the drill: a new MCU series arrives, and suddenly there’s a mountain of homework. ‘VisionQuest’ is no exception, and with the show debuting today on Disney+, the question of what to watch first has become a hot topic.
The series is billed as the final chapter of a trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ in 2021 and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’ in 2024. It follows Paul Bettany’s White Vision, who flew off in search of his purpose after receiving the original Vision’s memories.
To help viewers prepare, Disney+ has put together a catch-up list of 8 projects: ‘Iron Man’, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, ‘Avengers: Civil War’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Agatha All Along’. It reaches back to 2008’s ‘Iron Man’ and runs all the way up to the most recent entry in the trilogy.
The connections are clearer than they might first appear. ‘Iron Man’ introduced J.A.R.V.I.S., the AI assistant who would later become Vision, and it’s also where Faran Tahir’s Raza first appeared. Tahir returns to the role in the new series.
‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is arguably the most important pick. It introduces Ultron, who initially wanted to put his consciousness into the body that became Vision, along with F.R.I.D.A.Y. The film is also where James Spader’s villain last appeared before returning to the MCU for this series, nearly a decade later.
‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ is on the list largely because of E.D.I.T.H., the AI that Emily Hampshire plays in ‘VisionQuest’. Meanwhile, ‘Avengers: Civil War’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ offer glimpses of Wanda and Vision’s love story, with the latter ending in Vision’s death at the hands of Thanos. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ rounds out the Avengers run on the list.
The two Disney+ series are the most direct setup. ‘WandaVision’ is where White Vision was created by S.W.O.R.D., flooded with the original’s memories and sent flying off into the unknown. ‘Agatha All Along’ explains how Tommy Maximoff’s soul ended up in a new body, which matters because Ruaridh Mollica plays him in the new show.
Not everyone agrees on how much homework is necessary. A separate catch-up list highlighted by Marvel focused on 4 titles: ‘Age of Ultron’, ‘Civil War’, ‘Infinity War’ and ‘WandaVision’. That list left out ‘Agatha All Along’, which many guides treat as a bonus watch.
The longer Disney+ list closes that gap by including all 3 chapters of the trilogy’s story. For casual viewers, that’s a lot of viewing, but fans who want the full emotional payoff will likely appreciate the thorough approach.
The first trailer, which debuted at D23 in August, showed Vision in hiding and living a quiet life, only to be pursued by personified versions of Tony Stark’s old AI systems. J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H. all appear in human form. Vision then partners with Spader’s Ultron, who is back in human form too, to escape their grasp.

Things get more complicated when Vision meets a young man who claims to be his son, Tommy Maximoff. The official synopsis says Vision must confront his nature, resist Ultron’s influence and unravel the enigma of his young companion if he’s going to survive.
Terry Matalas, known for ‘Star Trek: Picard’, serves as showrunner. He has compared White Vision’s situation to Spock’s in ‘Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home’. The series runs for 8 episodes, with each installment emulating a different kind of film.
The cast is stacked as well. Alongside Bettany, Spader and Mollica, the series features T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Todd Stashwick as the mercenary Paladin, James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y. and Diane Morgan in an undisclosed role.
