Disney+’s Most Watched Movie of 2025 Revealed — and the Numbers Are Massive
Disney+ has a clear streaming winner this year, and the numbers are hard to ignore. New data shared by The Nielsen Company shows that Moana 2 is the most-watched movie on streaming so far in 2025.
According to Nielsen’s latest report, Moana 2 has pulled in more than 7.2 billion minutes of viewing on Disney+. That total was reached even though the year is not over yet. The film finished ahead of other big titles streaming on rival platforms, including movies available on Netflix.
The strong streaming performance adds to what was already a huge run for the movie. Moana 2 first hit theaters in late 2024 and quickly became a box office hit. It crossed the one billion dollar mark worldwide, beating the total of the first Moana film by a wide margin. The sequel became one of the highest-earning movies of 2024 and one of Disney’s most profitable releases in recent years.
Reviews for the film were mixed. Critics were not as impressed as they were with the original movie, giving the sequel a lower score overall. Audiences, however, responded much more positively, with viewer ratings landing far higher than critic scores. That gap seems to reflect what is now happening on streaming, where families and repeat viewers continue to press play.
The movie brings back Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui. The story takes place a few years after the first film and follows a new ocean journey that pushes Moana into unfamiliar waters. The project was first planned as a Disney+ series before being reshaped into a full theatrical release.
Moana 2 premiered in Hawaii in November 2024 and opened in U.S. theaters shortly after. It later made its way to Disney+, where it quickly found a second life with home viewers. Nielsen’s data now confirms just how big that audience has become.
