Doctor Doom Takes Over a Spanish Fortress in the Latest ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Promo

Marvel’s march toward December keeps finding new places to leave its mark. The studio has spent months rolling out teasers, posters and fan events for its biggest team-up in years, and every new beat seems designed to keep the internet guessing. The newest ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ promo takes the campaign somewhere unexpected: a centuries-old fortress in southern Spain.

The clip arrives as the film’s marketing leans heavily into the villain at its center. Doctor Doom has been the face of the campaign since the first trailer, and the color green has become his unmistakable calling card.

The new video, about 40 seconds long, shows a night aerial view of the Alcazaba of Málaga in Spain, labeled on screen with the location. The ancient walls and the old Roman theater below them glow in deep green light, and the glowing walls give the whole scene an eerie, almost supernatural feel. It’s a striking image that fits Doom’s look, since Robert Downey Jr. wore the character’s signature green when he appeared at CinemaCon in April.

The promo ends with the same message that fans have been seeing for weeks: ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters on December 18. The footage looks like a bit of environmental marketing, using a real landmark as a backdrop.

The location isn’t random. On October 3, San Diego Comic-Con Málaga hosted a Disney presentation in its Hall M that drew more than 3,000 fans, and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was the headline. Anthony Mackie, David Harbour and Winston Duke made a surprise appearance after a recorded greeting from directors Anthony and Joe Russo, and they introduced an extended trailer.

Marvel also unveiled a new international poster at the event, showing Doctor Doom on a staircase in front of his castle, flanked by 3 masked Latverian Witches in green, orange and purple. Marvel Studios shared the artwork with a short message saying witching season had arrived.

Around the same time, reports circulated that a new promo was being filmed in Spain featuring the Latverian Witches and Doombots. It’s worth stressing that Marvel has not confirmed that shoot, and the coverage reviewed didn’t mention Doombots in connection with the event, so those details remain unverified. What is clear is that the campaign has a strong Spanish chapter.

Spain is also getting a special treat on release day. Fans there will see the film a day early, on December 17, after the date was moved up during the convention.

Why ‘VisionQuest’ Will Be Crucial Viewing Before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

At the panel, the actors kept the mood playful. Mackie joked about the amount of doom audiences will see, a pun on the villain’s name, and said the Russos are great at giving every character a special moment, as they did in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Harbour praised Downey’s work ethic, saying he has never seen anyone work harder, and Duke told fans that they are part of the cast and the ending of the film.

Those comments echo the film’s central promise. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will bring together heroes from 3 universes, including the Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, against Doom.

The film’s marketing has been relentless. The first trailer debuted at CinemaCon in April, with a wider release in July, followed by a second look at D23. Presales have also been strong, with trackers putting worldwide presales past $100 million, and theaters are already selling Infinity Vision screenings.

The stakes are high, too. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will face competition on release weekend, and Marvel is hoping to recapture the box office magic of its earlier team-ups, which together made more than $7.7 billion.

Reaction online has been enthusiastic, with fans praising the moody visuals and the idea of Doom taking over a real location. In a campaign built on secrecy, even a short, atmospheric clip is enough to fuel theories. Every new image of green light or Latverian symbols becomes a reason to rewatch the trailers.

Of course, the real test comes in December, when the film has to deliver on all the buildup. Until then, expect more promos like this one, each a little bigger and stranger than the last.
