Does ‘Clayface’ Have a Post-Credits Scene? Here’s Whether to Expect That Batman Cameo
‘Clayface‘ arrives in theaters on October 23 as DC Studios’ first true horror film, and it is already one of the most talked-about entries in the new DC Universe. The R-rated body horror story from director James Watkins follows an actor whose life collapses after a crime boss leaves him horribly disfigured, then turns him into a living clay monster.
With so many comic book movies built around teasers that point toward the next big release, moviegoers heading into ‘Clayface’ have been asking an obvious question about the credits. Fans expected a Batman reveal to land in a final stinger, since Gotham’s Dark Knight has yet to be cast in the DCU. The rumor mill has been busy ever since.
The answer is simpler than the hype suggests. ‘Clayface’ does not have a mid-credits scene or a post-credits scene, so viewers can leave once the credits begin to roll. ComicBookMovie.com reported the news on October 14, and outlets in other markets have since echoed it.
The speculation came from the character himself. Clayface is one of Batman’s oldest foes, and this is the first DCU film set in Gotham City, which made a Batman tease feel like a natural fit. DC Studios has also handled credits scenes differently from film to film, which kept the question open.
‘Superman’ included a brief and humorous post-credits moment, while ‘Supergirl’ skipped a credits scene entirely. ‘Clayface’ follows the same approach as the second film. That suggests Gunn and Safran are choosing to tease future projects when and how they see fit, instead of treating a stinger as mandatory.
The rumor didn’t come out of nowhere. A scooper known as MTTSH said months ago that the film would have no post-credits scenes and that it feels very standalone. Reports from the first screenings then confirmed the claim, and it has been repeated across several outlets.
One caution is worth noting. Before release, ComicBookMovie.com acknowledged a slim chance that DC Studios was keeping something under wraps, but advised readers not to bank on it. Some online posts have also described supposed credits scenes that don’t exist, so be careful with any detailed claim about extra footage.

The short answer is no, according to a spoiler report from early screenings. Batman reportedly never appears in the film and isn’t referenced, and the gangster who scars Matt Hagen is a newly created character. That means there are few Easter eggs tying the story to the larger Bat-family mythology.
That said, star Tom Rhys Harries has said the team discussed Batman’s presence at length, so the filmmakers clearly considered the idea. For now, the DCU’s Dark Knight remains absent, and the actor who will play him has yet to be cast.

Clayface was always a standalone play, and it ties into a bigger plan. Gunn has said the film is set before ‘Superman’ chronologically, making it the first DCU movie in timeline order, and that it establishes Gotham while other heroes have yet to emerge. The planned Batman movie, ‘The Brave and the Bold’, remains in development, and it will need a new actor because Robert Pattinson’s version lives in a separate universe.
The character also isn’t finished in the DCU. After a version of Clayface appeared in ‘Creature Commandos’, Gunn suggested the reports of that character’s death were exaggerated. That leaves the door open for more clay-based horror down the road, even without a stinger to point the way.
The takeaway for viewers is simple. ‘Clayface’ runs on its own horror story, and once it ends, there is nothing left to wait for.
