Does Jackie End Up with Cole or Alex in ‘My Life with the Walter Boys’?

My Life With the Walter Boys‘ has built its entire identity on making fans agonize over one impossible question. Does Jackie Howard belong with steady, sensitive Alex or with brooding, complicated Cole, and every season finale seems designed to leave that question hanging by a thread.

The Netflix teen drama has never been shy about ending on a cliffhanger, and the Cole versus Alex debate remains the show’s central emotional engine heading into its later seasons.

Jackie’s Love Triangle with Cole and Alex

Jackie’s romantic entanglements started early, with her dating Alex Walter during Season 1 before an unexpected finale kiss with his older brother Cole sent her running back to New York for the summer. She dates Alex in Season 1, then kisses Cole in the finale, and it’s enough to send her running away for the summer back to New York.

That kiss set the entire triangle in motion for what followed. Come Season 2, Jackie tells Alex that she and Cole had kissed, and he’s livid and confronts his brother, who tries to apologize, though Alex doesn’t accept it.

Despite the fallout, Alex and Jackie found their way back to each other for a while. It doesn’t take long for Alex to decide that he can’t get over Jackie, and despite some other flirtations, they get back together.

Their reunion, however, was never the full picture, since Jackie kept sneaking around with Cole behind Alex’s back for much of the season.

Season 2 Finale: Jackie and Cole

The Season 2 finale finally forced Jackie to stop dodging her feelings. Jackie finally admits her feelings for Cole to the older Walter brother, only for Alex, who she got back together with mid season, to overhear.

Things unravel quickly once Cole realizes Jackie has been hiding something from him too. Cole tells Jackie he walked in on her and Alex making out at her Uncle Richard’s house and asks her why she can stay away from him but not from his brother.

The confrontation builds to the moment fans had been waiting for since the pilot. After Cole tells Jackie he loves her, she says it back to him. The season ends with Jackie finally, truly admitting that she is in love with Cole, after he says it first.

But the show refuses to let the moment breathe. Alex asks her if she loves Cole, and before she can answer, they’re interrupted by an ambulance, as Johnny explains something has happened to their dad George. That gut punch means Jackie’s love confession never gets a proper follow up before the credits roll, and the ending does not confirm that Jackie and Cole are officially together, leaving her true intentions up for speculation heading into the next season.

The Season 3 Update

Season 3 picks up the mess exactly where it left off, and it turns out the ambiguity was intentional. Season 1 concludes with Jackie boarding a flight back to New York, choosing not to be with Alex or Cole, and Season 2 ends with Jackie telling Cole that she loves him right before George has a medical emergency.

Rather than resolving the triangle, the newest season somehow complicates it further. The Season 3 finale, titled ‘The Beautiful and the Damned,’ ended with multiple cliffhangers involving Alex, Cole, and Jackie, including an unresolved love triangle, a kiss on the dance floor, and a potentially devastating rollover car crash.

According to the latest details, Jackie is trying to reclaim a sense of joy for herself while Alex is processing a kiss he never saw coming, and it’s not just Cole’s world spinning out of control either.

Star Noah LaLonde, who plays Cole, addressed just how chaotic the ending feels for the cast themselves. “Everything that gets flipped on its head at the end feels fresh, and it’s like, ‘What the hell’s going to happen now?'” he said.

Where Things Stand for Jackie, Cole and Alex

So as of right now, Jackie has not permanently ended up with either Walter brother, and the show seems determined to keep it that way for as long as possible.

Showrunner Melanie Halsall has been candid about why the Season 2 ending was built to be so unresolved, explaining that the goal was to raise the emotional stakes across the entire Walter family rather than just the romance. Halsall said she wanted to give all the characters a huge thing to deal with in those last moments, noting that Jackie’s fling with Alex and her unignorable feelings for Cole had finally come to a head.

That approach has clearly carried into Season 3, where the love triangle remains just as unresolved and a new cliffhanger involving Cole’s condition now looms over everything. Fans hoping for a clean answer will have to wait for Season 4, which is already confirmed to be in the works.

Given how far this triangle has stretched across three seasons, are you still rooting for Jackie to end up with Cole, or has Alex earned his way back into being the endgame after everything he’s been through.
