HBO has finally given fans a first look at its new Harry Potter series, and the trailer reveals a fresh cast along with a surprise Christmas 2026 premiere. The first season will cover Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, reimagining J.K. Rowling’s classic story in a multi-season format.

At the center of the trailer is Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter. He steps into the role of the Boy Who Lived, showing the early struggles and wonder of his first year at Hogwarts. McLaughlin is joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. One memorable moment features Stanton as Hermione, sitting at a desk and smiling, perfectly capturing her clever and curious nature.

The adult cast also received attention. John Lithgow appears fully dressed as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, complete with robes and his long beard. Janet McTeer plays Professor McGonagall, Nick Frost takes on Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu is Professor Snape.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner, known for Succession, leads the series, with several episodes directed by Game of Thrones veteran Mark Mylod. HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO JB Perrette called the series “the biggest streaming event in the history of HBO Max and arguably in streaming, period. It’s number one, two and three in many ways.”

Original Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe also commented on the new lead. “I’m sure Dominic is going to be better than me. I learned as I went… I was very much learning how to do it for a long time on Potter,” Radcliffe said.

The trailer gives viewers a solid first look at McLaughlin as Harry and sets the stage for a new take on the wizarding world. With the series premiering this Christmas, it promises to be one of the most talked-about shows of the year.

Seeing Dominic McLaughlin as Harry feels exciting. He brings a fresh energy to the role, and the trailer hints at a faithful yet modern take on the story. I’m curious what fans think , does he feel like the Harry you imagined? Share your thoughts in the comments.
