President Donald Trump is facing backlash after posting a racist AI video on his Truth Social account showing Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. The video, shared late Thursday night, also included a conspiracy theory about the 2020 election, claiming that voting machines in certain battleground states were rigged to favor Joe Biden.

The clip lasts just over a minute, and in its final moments, the Obamas appear with ape bodies, smiling and dancing in a jungle setting to “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” As of Friday morning, the video was still live on Trump’s account.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to a request for comment from Variety, saying, “This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from the Lion King. Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public.”

The video Trump shared was originally posted in October 2025 by an account called @xerias_x. In the full clip, Trump is shown as a lion while other Democrats are depicted as animals: Joe Biden as a baboon, Kamala Harris as a tortoise, Chuck Schumer as a zebra, Hakeem Jeffries as a meerkat, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a donkey, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as a hyena, and Hillary Clinton as a warthog.

The same account had previously created a controversial AI video showing Trump in a fighter jet dropping a large payload on protesters in New York City.

The video has drawn criticism from political leaders. California Governor Gavin Newsom called it “disgusting behavior by the President” and urged every Republican to speak out against it.

This latest post has sparked a heated online debate over the use of AI in political attacks and the limits of online platforms for sharing controversial content.

This video is deeply offensive and reflects a troubling misuse of technology to spread racist imagery. It raises serious questions about accountability for AI-generated content, especially when shared by prominent public figures. Do you think platforms like Truth Social should act faster to remove such content? Share your thoughts in the comments.
