Dragon Ball fans finally have clear answers about the future of the anime. During the Genkidamatsuri event held on January 25, the franchise officially confirmed that Dragon Ball Super is returning to television with a brand-new sequel series.

The announcement was made on stage by Akio Iyoku, president of Capsule Corporation Tokyo and executive producer of the series. Speaking at the opening of the 40th anniversary celebration, Iyoku revealed that the new anime will be titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. He confirmed that production has already started, though he did not share a release date.

According to Iyoku, the new series will continue directly from where the Dragon Ball Super anime ended in 2018. This means the story will finally move past the Tournament of Power and begin adapting material that until now only existed in the manga.

Fans will not have to wait years for new Dragon Ball content, however. Iyoku also announced a remake of the early Super storyline called Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. This updated version is scheduled to air in fall 2026 and will retell the Battle of Gods arc with improved animation and tighter pacing.

We call this an enhanced edition that reconstructs the story, Iyoku said during the event. He explained that this version stays closer to Akira Toriyama’s original ideas and early drafts, offering what he described as a cleaner and more polished starting point for the Super timeline.

The return of the anime is especially meaningful for longtime fans. After Akira Toriyama passed away in 2024, the future of Dragon Ball Super felt uncertain. While the manga continued with new arcs, the anime remained silent for years. The Galactic Patrol series will finally bring those manga stories to the screen, starting with the popular Moro arc.

In this storyline, Goku and Vegeta team up with the Galactic Patrol, a group of space police tasked with keeping the universe safe. Their main enemy is Moro, an ancient wizard known as the Planet-Eater. Moro regains his powers and begins draining the life energy of entire worlds, forcing the heroes into one of their most dangerous battles yet. A teaser image shown at the event featured Goku and Vegeta standing in front of the Galactic Patrol symbol.

The Genkidamatsuri event also highlighted how closely involved Iyoku has become with the franchise. He recently transferred the Dragon Ball rights to Capsule Corporation Tokyo to better manage the brand worldwide. He was joined on stage by Masako Nozawa, the 89-year-old voice of Goku, who has played the character since 1986.

Beyond the anime, the event included several other announcements. Fans were shown an early tease for a new game called Dragon Ball: Age 1000, planned for release in 2027. The game will include an original character designed by Toriyama before his death. New downloadable content was also confirmed for Sparking! ZERO, adding characters such as King Piccolo and Super Android 17.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is expected to help bridge the gap between Dragon Ball Daima and the start of the Super storyline. Many insiders believe it will lead directly into the launch of The Galactic Patrol series, which could arrive as early as 2027.

For now, fans are simply relieved to know the story is moving forward again. With a refined remake on the way and a major new sequel in development, Dragon Ball’s future looks very much alive.
