Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy-closing chapter has spent the better part of a year building anticipation through a steady drip of footage, character reveals, and format announcements. With December’s release edging closer, Warner Bros. has entered its most aggressive promotional push yet for the film’s theatrical rollout.

That push escalated this week with the release of a brand-new teaser titled “Dune: Part Three | Dune Insider Screenings,” accompanying the news that tickets are now officially on sale for IMAX and other premium large-format screenings. Rotten Tomatoes shared the teaser alongside confirmation that fans can now begin securing seats ahead of the film’s theatrical debut.

The ticket rollout follows a carefully staggered release plan the studio has been building toward for weeks. Limited early fan screenings in IMAX 70mm are set for December 14 at select theaters, expanding to include digital IMAX locations the following day, December 15, before traditional Thursday previews on December 17 lead into the film’s wide opening on December 18.

That release date carries significant weight given what else is opening the same day. ‘Dune: Part Three’ shares its December 18 release with Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ setting up what’s already being billed as one of the biggest single-day box office showdowns in recent memory, a pairing fans have taken to calling “Dunesday.”

‘Dune: Part Three’ adapts Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel ‘Dune Messiah,’ picking up seventeen years after the events of ‘Dune: Part Two.’ Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, now ruling as Emperor while waging a holy war that has left him torn between his political marriage to Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh, and his enduring bond with Fremen warrior Chani, played by Zendaya.

That central conflict has anchored much of the film’s marketing throughout the year, with trailers steadily revealing a growing conspiracy against Paul forming from within his own inner circle. Villeneuve has described this closing chapter as more action-heavy and tense than its predecessors, calling it the most personal installment of the trilogy in press appearances leading up to release.

The film also brings back Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, and an expanded Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, alongside new cast additions including Robert Pattinson as the shapeshifting antagonist Scytale, Jason Momoa as a resurrected version of Duncan Idaho, and Isaach de Bankolé rounding out the ensemble.

Much of the urgency behind this ticket rollout traces back to how the film was actually shot. ‘Dune: Part Three’ was partially filmed using IMAX film cameras, making it only the second production after Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ to use the format’s newer, lighter camera technology, a distinction that’s fueled speculation the film could be presented in IMAX’s full 1.43:1 aspect ratio.

Reports have also indicated the film secured a three-week IMAX exclusivity window globally, giving it a notable advantage as it heads into a head-to-head battle with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ for the same release date. Given how quickly earlier waves of IMAX 70mm tickets sold out back in April, when an initial batch across nineteen global locations disappeared almost immediately, demand for these newly available Insider Screening tickets is expected to be similarly intense.

With the countdown to December now well underway and ticket sales opening in phases across formats, ‘Dune: Part Three’ continues positioning itself as one of the most anticipated theatrical events of the year. Between the emotionally charged conflict at the story’s center and the technical ambition behind its presentation, the film’s marketing has left little doubt about the scale Warner Bros. is aiming for.
