‘Dune: Part Three’ Tickets Finally Hit General Sale as Villeneuve’s Epic Finale Faces ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Few modern franchises have turned moviegoing into an event the way ‘Dune‘ has. With ‘Dune: Part Three’ set to close out Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy this December, anticipation has been building for months. Now fans are about to get their best chance yet to secure a seat.
The new film adapts Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune Messiah’ and picks up 17 years after the last installment. Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) now rules as Emperor and is married to Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), while keeping his bond with Chani (Zendaya). Villeneuve has said it leans further into thriller territory and carries more action than the earlier films.
General pre-sales for ‘Dune: Part Three’ begin on Tuesday, October 20, with tickets going on sale worldwide for all formats and time slots. The rollout follows 2 earlier rounds of pre-sales that covered previews and select IMAX and premium large format screenings.
The film opens in North America on December 18, with the international rollout beginning December 16. Early-access Dune Insider screenings start on December 14 in IMAX 70mm only, then expand to digital IMAX the following day.
#Dune nation, rejoice! Following #TheOdyssey footsteps, after 2 rounds of pre-sales for previews & select IMAX + PLF screenings, #DenisVilleneuve’s epic conclusion #DunePartThree will kick off general pre-sales on OCT 20 TUE, 55 days ahead of its DEC 15 Global #BoxOffice rollout’s kickoff. Tickets will go on sale worldwide TOMORROW, for all formats and time slots.

The staggered approach echoes Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, which put IMAX 70mm tickets on sale a full year before release. IMAX later reported record pre-sales of $50 million for that film, plus a $52 million global IMAX opening weekend. Studios clearly noticed that selling a big-screen event early can turn into buzz.
‘Dune: Part Three’ has borrowed that strategy. The first batch of IMAX 70mm tickets went on sale in April across 19 global locations, and GamesRadar reported they sold out in just under 3 hours. A later round, timed with a new trailer, added other premium large format screens and sneak peek fan screenings.
The ticket push matters even more because ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens on the same day. Fans have nicknamed the clash “Dunesday,” and Marvel’s film has reportedly pulled in $16.5 million in its first 24 hours of advance ticket sales. That is a tough number to follow.
Villeneuve’s finale does have one major advantage. It reportedly holds IMAX exclusivity for 3 weeks, which keeps Marvel out of that premium format during a crucial stretch of the holiday season.
The film was also built with IMAX in mind. It is the first in the franchise to be partially shot with IMAX film cameras, and cinematographer Linus Sandgren shot the desert sequences in IMAX Digital. Both earlier ‘Dune’ films already featured full-frame IMAX sequences, so this is a natural escalation.
“Forgive me for all I’ve done.” Experience the epic conclusion. Dune: Part Three only in theaters and IMAX December 18. #DuneMovie #FilmedforIMAX https://t.co/x9Nftg9yXd

Alongside Chalamet, Zendaya and Pugh, the returning cast includes Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Charlotte Rampling. Anya Taylor-Joy reprises her role as Alia Atreides, and Robert Pattinson joins as Scytale. Villeneuve has called this his final trip to Arrakis.
Fan excitement is already measurable, as the official trailer has passed 38 million views on Warner Bros.’ channel. Now the real test begins, because tickets are about to reveal how many of those viewers will show up on opening weekend.
