Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has officially confirmed that the next Jumanji movie is entering production and it will mark the end of the beloved adventure series.

The actor recently shared the news on Instagram, saying filming will take place soon in Los Angeles. He described the project as “a massive, fun, heartfelt adventure” and added, “Feels emotionally appropriate for our beloved JUMANJI franchise to end on this beautiful grace note of our final film.”

The official Jumanji Twitter account also announced the movie’s production, posting, “New level unlocked. #JumanjiMovie is officially in production,” along with a photo of Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan together at a panel in Los Angeles.

The movie is expected to hit theaters on December 11, 2026, with Jake Kasdan returning as director. Kasdan, who has led the last two films, confirmed earlier that he wanted to bring back the same core cast and continue the story. He also shared interest in having Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt, stars of the original 1995 Jumanji, return for this final chapter.

The new film will continue from Jumanji: The Next Level, where the villain Jurgen the Brutal played a major role. Johnson revealed that the upcoming story will explore who was behind Jurgen’s avatar inside the game, something fans have been curious about since the last movie.

The project has been in development for several years. Work on the script began in early 2020, but it faced delays during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, producer Hiram Garcia confirmed that Kasdan would make the Jumanji sequel his next major project after finishing Red One (2024). By 2023, Kevin Hart hinted that the upcoming movie would likely close out the series.

In October 2025, it was announced that Brittany O’Grady and Burn Gorman had joined the cast, with filming scheduled to begin the following month. Marketing for the movie started earlier this year with a poster reveal at CinemaCon this year, giving fans their first look at the return of the iconic franchise.

Johnson also shared a small Easter egg that fans of the original movie will love. In a recent post, he showed a necklace with a dice pendant, explaining, “The significance of the dice in the last picture is a little Easter egg that my character, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, wears on a necklace in our final film. It’s the dice from the original 1995 JUMANJI and a way of paying homage, love, and respect to the great Robin Williams.”

That small detail hints that the new movie might reconnect with the 1995 classic. While the last two films focused on a video game version of Jumanji, this one could bring back the original board game, tying the whole story together.
