Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence’s Kids Are Set to Become First-Time Parents
Comedy fans have something new to celebrate this week. Eddie Murphy’s son, Eric Murphy, and Martin Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin Lawrence, are expecting their first child together. The news, reported by social media on Monday, February 2, 2026, immediately captured attention because it means two of Hollywood’s most famous comedic families will soon be linked by a grandchild.
The couple shared the exciting update with fans in a joint Instagram post, showing Jasmin holding her baby bump and both of them smiling together. “Thank you Jesus for the greatest gift,” they wrote, clearly overjoyed by this new chapter. Fans flooded the comments with jokes and congratulations, with many pointing out that the baby is almost guaranteed to inherit a great sense of humor. One fan wrote that the child will be “talented and funny as hell.”
Eric and Jasmin have moved quickly as a couple. They began dating in 2021 and got engaged in late 2024. Instead of a big, public wedding, the couple opted for a private ceremony. Eddie Murphy revealed the secret during a TV appearance last year.
“Actually, they got married, like, two weeks ago,” he said, explaining that the ceremony was a small affair with just a preacher. He joked about Martin Lawrence being his new in-law, saying, “Yeah, we’re in-laws. And he doesn’t have to pay for that big wedding now.” Eddie also admitted that he wasn’t at the ceremony because it was meant to be a private moment for the couple.
Even before the marriage, Eddie spoke about the couple with pride. In an interview with Gayle King, he said, “Just our gene pool is going to make this funny baby,” adding that he expects the child to be naturally funny thanks to the family genes on both sides.
While preparing to welcome a grandchild, both Eddie and Martin are keeping busy with their careers. Eddie Murphy is set to receive the AFI Life Achievement Award at the Dolby Theatre on April 18.
He is also working on major projects, including Shrek 5. Martin Lawrence is currently on his nationwide stand-up tour, Y’all Still Know What It Is!, which will run through summer 2026. He is also rumored to be developing a new Bad Boys sequel.
