Elijah Wood gave a big surprise to a couple who were getting married at The Shire in New Zealand. The actor, best known for playing Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings movies, showed up unexpectedly at their wedding held on the Hobbiton movie set in Matamata.

According to a video shared by Hobbiton Tours on TikTok on October 29, Wood arrived at the ceremony without anyone knowing. The guests were stunned when they realized that Frodo himself was standing among them. In the clip, people could be heard gasping and cheering as Wood made his way toward the couple.

Dressed casually in a raincoat and jeans, Wood ran down the aisle to greet the newlyweds and take photos with them. He looked thrilled by the scene, pointing out that “everyone is dressed as Hobbits.” Smiling, he added, “This is amazing,” while the iconic song “The Shire” played in the background.

The moment was shared widely online with the caption, “An unforgettable wedding in The Shire… #hobbiton.” Another post by Hobbiton Tours included professional photos showing the actor posing with the bride and groom at the altar.

It’s been 26 years since director Peter Jackson first began filming The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in New Zealand. The trilogy, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous novels, became one of the biggest movie franchises in history, earning over $2.9 billion at the box office and winning 17 Academy Awards. The films made stars out of Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen, and many others.

In a past interview with Vanity Fair, Wood talked about how hard it was to say goodbye to the role that changed his life. “The ‘letting go’ of the character didn’t really happen until after The Return of the King was released,” he said. “We were saying goodbye over the course of many years, really. And then there was the Oscars — it felt like this extraordinary family reunion.”

For the lucky couple in The Shire, their wedding day turned into a once-in-a-lifetime memory. Not only did they get married in Middle-earth, but they also got an unexpected visit from Frodo himself.
